Just a little frustration

Been a season ticket holder for much of the time since I graduated UK in 1998. I love the experience even though it gets harder with life circumstances and the drive seeming longer.
This is outside of the game itself last night.

The new video boards look great.
The stadium is nice and has been since the Renovation completion in 2015. I really enjoy the game day atmosphere and experience still.
One problem: the signal BLOWS!

I’m embarrassed how far behind Uk is in this area. I don’t have near the signal issues at any other stadium (and been to many) that I still have at CWS. What gives?

I can’t even get a signal worth a crap to make a call much less check other scores, which is nice to do during breaks.

It’s just frustrating. Is it just me? Been this way for years now!

I know it’s first world problems.
But still.

Is this true for all cell phone carriers or just ATT? I know that there are spots in Lexington (inside the beltway) that coverage is "one" bar and with connectivity issues. Other adjacent areas can be strong signals. There really is no reason for an issue like this inside the open-air stadium unless University "powers-that-be" don't want good connectivity for some abstract technical reason. This would actually be an interesting study for some tech guys to investigate but I'm sure they would need some level of cooperation from the University ... which might not be forthcoming, for "whatever" reason. Otherwise, I would start asking questions to the individual carriers. I wonder if bad connectivity is true for all carriers or just the carrier the OP uses? I know reception at Rupp is very bad with my carrier, which is ATT. In fact, the worst signal I get with ATT in Lexington is "AT" my home. I really should change carriers honestly for that reason alone.

You probably have AT&T or one of the carriers that use its network, right?

That's not really a UK problem. And it's one of the reasons I switched to Verizon.

I don't care about my signal at a football game. People are so absorbed in their phones all the time, they miss the experience they are at. I've seen folks online during a wedding, when the couple is saying I do. I recommend leaving the phone in the car, and enjoy the game.
I would like to check scores of other games during the 3 minute TV timeouts.

I use my phone to check stats and news/commentary on the UK game itself.

When you have a stadium full of people all trying to use their cell phones it overloads the system. There are mobile resources that can be brought in for game day if the carriers care to do it.

That’s why staying home is much better than going
You see the game so much better - watch other games during time outs - no hassle getting food drink - restroom - no getting stuck in lot after game - no idiot screaming stand up on 3rd down - don’t have to deal with drunks

I went to the game last night, had great seats, and a good time. But, honestly I’m just as happy watching the game at home.

The antennas in the area as re set up for normal usage. You suddenly have 120,000.....you know an entire city basically.......in one location all trying to use the same antenna, it's gonna cause problems. It's not a UK issue, it's a provider issue. UK needs to get more cell towers installed in the area to alleviate the congestion.

Do you understand why Nicholasville Rd is a pain in the ass on gameday? Then you understand why using your phone at the game is a pain in the ass.

It's every stadium its not exclusive to Kentucky. I have the same problem attending the Bengals game.

Facebook waits for no one

T-Mobile here. I skipped the last 2 years, but my phone always worked fine even when no one else's did. I couldn't do anything on it yesterday, from hours before kickoff until about 30 minutes after. Worked here and there towards the end of the game, but not consistently.

Definitely something that needs to be fixed somehow.

Surprised UK doesn't have small cells around stadium. These are temp units that are used for large concerts and outdoor events. They will help with capacity overload issues significantly.

5G expansion will help with these types of large events as the signal will be transferred at speeds are up to 1000x faster than 4G. Verizon did some sort of deal with NFL and select stadiums where despite being at capacity people were getting faster data inside the stadium than at home on their couch.

I have no knowledge of the wireless provider's signal strengths around UK. Haven't been to a UK football game in 15 years probably. That said, all carriers have weak spots....some more than others.

Personally, to me, there is nothing like being at an event in person, be it golf tournaments, football, baseball, basketball, etc. Just not the same sitting in an easy chair at home, much prefer in person experience. But I am generally too much into the game to fool with my cell phone except during long breaks or halftime.

Except for the fact that i get good service at several sec stadiums in recent years and at Packers , Titan ,Steelers and Bengals games I have attended in last 5 years . I mean if the system works in those locations with packed houses it should work at Kroger .

Those stadiums are either in areas with resources enough to handle an extra large number of calls simultaneously, or they bring in mobile resources on game day. It's all about bandwidth and cell tower capacity.

I have T-Mobile and the service is crap inside and near the stadium. Works in the Purple parking lot, but a real pain in the a** while at the game. Aside from keeping up with the world, sometimes you leave kids with others so you can go to the game, would be nice to be able to be reached if need be. There has to be something (wi-fi) UK can do to help?
