OT, but Justyn Ross of Clemson was not drafted and has not signed an UDFA contract yet either. Had a lot of injuries in college, but as a freshman was just unreal, hard to believe he can't even get a FA look.

Signed with the Chiefs.

Wasn't he the player who had the severe neck injury a few years back? If so that may have scared off teams.

Just goes to show you how bad the wide out recruiting was going under Gran. Ali was by far our best receiver and is struggling to get an invite to an NFL camp.
His last signing class of WRs was considered pretty good at the time. Luck? Gran was fired in December of 2020, but:

1. Christian Lewis 5.8 four star signed June 2020
2. Dekel Crowdus 5.7 three star signed May 2020
3. Chauncey Magwood 5.7 three star signed April 2020

I think the bigger issue with WR development has been the rotating cast of WR coaches. If Stoops ran Hogwarts the WR assistant coach would be his Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher. Hopefully we are set for a while with Coach Smith.

Compared to what other schools in this league recruit at WR that’s not that great of a class. You gotta get some 4 and 5 star guys at that position.

Well, yeah. I wasn't comparing to other schools just the reaction at the time and comparing to earlier classes. Doesn't sound like we disagree.

Neverending revolving door of wr coaches was absolutely an issue with both recruiting and developing imo. Who wants to go to a place where you will have 4 or 5 different position coaches in a year?

Plus hinshaw being awful didn't help either.

Misinformation

None of the 3 players listed "signed" on the dates indicated

No CFB player can "sign" anywhere until late Dec early signing period, or normal 2nd Tues of Feb signing day

Coach Smith either quit or got fired two years ago.

I'd like to take a poll and see how many fully understood the Harry Potter analogy. Feel free to post yes or no with your age. :)

There are 4 - 5 star WR in '23 and we're 3 in '22. Those are typical years. The chance UK signs a 5 star WR is astronomical.

Sumrall pulled Lewis and Magwood. Marrow got Crowdus. None came bc of Gran and you can argue they would have flipped elsewhere had he stayed.

Maybe but they committed knowing who the OC was and everything you said requires mental gymnastics for a lot of teenagers and their families.

A better theory would be they committed to have a spot somewhere because they were worried about ever getting another SEC offer and would have left if both they got that offer and Gran stayed.

Terry Wilson got an invite to Cowboys rookie mini camp.
I love TW, but I don't see him as an NFL QB. If he makes a good impression on the Dallas practice squad, maybe he will get picked up by one of the lesser pro leagues - CFL, XFL, USFL, Indoor football, etc., but I hope he got a good college education at UK and the other schools he attended, because I don't see him making a lot of money as a pro football player. I hope I am wrong.

Too bad he's not Canadian. As I understand that still limits opportunity. Aren't teams limited to a certain number of Yankees?

I think the bigger issue was the poor development at QB. Hinshaw may have been the biggest bust we've had as an assistant since Uzelac or Majors. In some ways he might have been even worse. Every QB during his tenure except Johnson regressed. Every single one got worse the longer they were in the system. And I believe every QB except Johnson ended up transferring out. Even the 3rd and 4th teamers. I can't recall a single one except Johnson that graduated here. That's one of the most remarkable accomplishments of failure I've ever seen.

I believe he had some kind of spinal/neck issue that threatened his career, some were surprised he even came back. But I think he played injury free in 21, but not the same player as pre injury.
