Johnson, Smith or Baker

Which of the 3 would rather have? Which one do we get?

I am hoping for Cam Johnson, because next year is the need and he should come in more ready to play. I am not convince we get much out of Shai next year.

I would think Johnson would be the clear choice in terms of needs and most ready to play at this level.I believe getting at least one of the three is very important probably not as important as Bamba but not as far behind as one might first think.

We are in trouble if we do not get another backup guard for next year. I really like the looks of the Smith kid as well.

It would be nice to land at least two of those guys. Can’t really go wrong with any of them at this point.


If forced to choose, I’m going with Smith.

There’s pretty much no doubt UK is bringing in an additional guard at this point.

Probably depends on how quickly Alexander develops over the summer. If he's not ready to be a high-level reserve, Johnson suddenly doesn't look at vital as someone like Smith due to the fact that UK would need a backup point guard and already has Diallo/Vanderbilt on the wing (Johnson's positions).

Alexander looked pretty good in last night's Nike Summit game. He's really long with a decent handle, passes well, defends competently and shoots much better than I had thought. Spent all night on the fouls stripe. pretty damned good.

Good point,we are probably already better at the 3 than we have been in the last couple of years.I was thinking more of Diallo as a 2 but he would be strong on a wing as well.

Solid ball handling and shooting are things this team will have to prove they can do if they are to be as good as we want them to be. We thought last years team was a different type of Cal team,well it looks like this one will be a bit different than anything we have seen also

I think the tea leaves are telling us that Cameron Johnson is probably coming to Kentucky. Calipari seldom takes transfers, but Johnson is a fit for our team on several levels. If there are enought scholarships left, Calipari might also snag Baker. I don't get the feeling that Smith or Knox is coming, and I still have no idea what Bamba will decide. Adebayo will enter the draft. The decision that Humphries is about to make will be very important for next year's team, regardless of what Bamba decides.

I am looking forward to this group. If UK lands Bamba, I think the potential depth of next year’s UK frontcourt will be on par with the 2015 team (I’m not making a case for a similar outcome, only that the depth will be legitimate).

Washington and Vanderbilt give Calipari a combination that he hasn’t really had since the 2012 team. Lots of options with this group next year if they land Bamba.

Which is why UK will add another guard in a few weeks. I like that Cal is simultaneously recruiting three of them. He's going to fill that need regardless.

I'm not picky. Any of them will do. I would be willing to take all three, expect to take two, but would be happy with just one.

Unless we miss on Bamba in which case I think taking two becomes more of a necessity, pushing Washington to more minutes at the 4 spot.

those guards probably won't play. They'll be great practice bodies, but that's about it. I like them, because they'll be solid in 2-3 years. Next year.... Nada...

What you'll see is Coach Cal will go big. We have small forwards now...who can take pressure off our PG. It's kind of like what happened for Teague. He was main ball handler, but that didn't change from MKG, Lamb, and sometimes TJ to bring the ball up the court. Offense can be ran from any one of Diallo/Vanderbilt/Washington (assuming green is on the bench do to rest or foul trouble).

Initially, it'll be rough but i didn't even talk about Shai. It's like Briscoe playing 3. This is the opposite of that, we now have bigger guys playing guard position.

You nailed it with the first part. For all the "we need shooterz" talk, these guards that we are recruiting right now won't total more than 15 minutes per game, combined, if we get Bamba. And they may not even if we don't.
