John Calipari on Kentucky's struggles without Tyler Ulis and status vs UCLA

Personally I think the Illinois St game was a fluke situation. Guards are their strength. We had no time to adjust. Watch what happens versus UCLA. We will drill them by 25+...with or without Tyler (who I love).

I appreciate Cal's honesty, and I certainly understand how good (and important) a player Tyler is, but man I'm not too thrilled with the defeatist attitude without Tyler. I get it the Cats aren't the same team, but let's go play "not with what we have" but "we have the horses to win anyway."

Cal is pretty smart. I think that statement was for UCLA, not for his team.

Did not read anything defeatest but seemed to describe what most honest fans at this point of the season equally observe. You can not have Briscoe or one or two others in the end of a close game because they cant be relied on to hit free throws.

Nothing new here. He said all that in the post-game comments. I don't think Cal had a defeatist bone in his body. It may be a motivational tool for our guards. It is a good measuring stick for Briscoe and Murray. If Tyler is in fouls trouble or some such, now they know what it takes to step in and run the show. And right now, it's true...we aren't the same team without him. But they will get better with more experience.

Clearly not the same team without Ulis. Someone needs to pick up the slack as UCLA will be out for blood as the Cats hunker down less than an hour away from the San Bernardino massacre. Clear thoughts and determination far away from home is necessary from a young group in their first true road game.

Go Cats!!!

It is going to be so frustrating for Cal early next season when Ulis is gone to the NBA and Cal has to rely on a freshman pg again. I'm not bashing Fox. He's the best point guard coming into college and if any guard can thrive as a freshman under Cal, it's this kid. It's just with the trust Cal has built with Ulis, it is going to be kind of a new thing again when Cal has to build the same relationship with Fox. It's a great problem to have and i'm sure Cal loves figuring it out. If you have to play a freshman at the leader on the court, it always helps when you have a guy like Fox coming in.

The only one that finds anything defeatist in that is someone who is looking for things not there.
