John Calipari on Charles Matthews, Marcus Lee and Tyler Ulis

Cal seems to really like what he's seeing in Murray while the ball is in his hands. I have a feeling thats where the ball will be in big moments...

I'd agree with this. He can score and distribute in close games.

Cal is the master at managing multiple talented players and keeping everyone happy. That being said, what if Murray plays at a level that warrants him playing the majority of the minutes as the PG controlling the ball. I think Ulis would have a hard time relinquishing that role this year. That is why I am a little surprised we got Murray. Like I said, Cal is the master so I'm sure he will work it out.

Lee impressed me a lot last year. He's got the hops and height and the only thing I might wonder is Cal going to play him more to see what kind of numbers he can put up? heck just rebounding 8+ a game would be amazing on top of his "in the paint" dunk skills.

I feel pretty confident Ulis is the PG. I think Murray would be the person to take a last-second shot if we needed one. Ulis creates, Murray shoots. Just from reading the practice reports, this sounds like Tyler's team and Cal wants him to be a coach on the floor.

Of course Lee is a lil further along than Skal at this point. Lee has been in the program for 3 years now. Unless he's like the kid that fell asleep during watching tape, you would expect that. After a few months into the season we hear Lee is ahead, ill be worried. Not to bash Lee. I think Lee has a break out year and shows what's he made of. It's just when you're talking about a kid like Skal, you're talking about going first overall in the NBA type of talent. It's hard to match that type of skillset.

Cal says Marcus ahead of Skal....hopefully it will suddenly mean something now

No he didn't.

"I think he looks out there and he's well beyond Skal physically, conditioning and being able to stay up with the game."

As a Junior, Lee should be in much better shape than any incoming freshman.

Also, I have yet to hear Cal say this about Skal or any other player this year -

"Now he's got to go in and be able to make 15-footers, because they're not going to play him out on the floor. Make free throws."

You are the only one who seems to think Lee's bball skills are on par with Skal...

I will agree that you are correct in that Marcus is going to be a KEY factor this year. His defense and hustle will be huge when he is in the game, and hopefully he becomes a super rebounder.

I have no doubts that Lee has improved and hope he has a monster year.

When the shot clock is under 15 seconds and we need a shot, the ball will end up in Murray's hands most of the time, IMHO.

He just makes good things happen when he has the ball.

Can't wait to see him in blue.

The thing that will keep Lee off the court more than anything will be his free throw shooting.

Thats where he could hurt us.

Lee has got to make FT's. Not an option if he wants to play in close games.

I don't believe for one hot second that Marcus Lee is ahead of Skal. Coach speak is what I hear.

The great thing for us this year is that any of Ulis, Murray, or Briscoe have the ability to make plays. Murray and Ulis can do so with both their shot and the pass while Briscoe is more of a scorer. You could put the ball in Murray or Ulis hands and anybody on the court could end up with the shot.
