Jerry West on @Lavarbigballer: I wouldn't want a dad like that http://bit.ly/2rIUR5L

I agree I would've already told him to be quiet or I'm cutting him out. He's already cost Alonzo shoe endorsements, and may cost him some spots in the draft

He's an awful human being and insanely annoying (lavar) and it was glorious watching his other son suck up the court while losing by 50 in front of harden etc lol
IMO the other two kids are not in Lonzo's league. Can you imagine the grief that Alford is gonna get from Daddy if these two are not featured.Saw one game where they were combined 19 for 78 from the field

Agreed 100%

I'm not the biggest fan of LonZo, but he's good and I think he will have a decent NBA career - the other younger ones ... not so much lol

I don't think you should pass the sins of the father onto the son.

While I'll take some shots in jest at expense of the old man, the kids can't be held responsible for getting sucked into his madness.

Seems like Lonzo understands the old man is a character and he just keeps his head down to avoid as much flack as possible.

I wasn't a fan of KSR showing the video of the young one tanking at a game. They are still kids.

That said, I agree with Jerry West. I wouldn't want him for a father either but who knows - maybe he's a hero to those boys.

I didn't know who LaVar Ball was until the interview during a game in which he guaranteed a NC for UCLA.

He's obviously not a bright person because his mouth has already cost Lonzo a major company shoe deal imo. He has put his son's in quite the spot. Lonzo will be a target. So will his other sons.

As far as what kind of father he is, idk but I do know he's created a very difficult situation for his boys. All by running his mouth.

Lamelo is already. You see those Compton city crips take him to the woodshed last week?

Who would? Unless you are a feeble minded person. Which I guess lonzo is
or, maybe, for whatever reason, he loves and respects his dad.
doesn't make him feeble minded

not defending Lavar by any means, I think he's a s***.

I respectfully disagree. There is respect and then there is seeing lunacy. At some point you have to do things on your own. He is about to be a professional anyways.

Lonzo needs to break away from his dad if he ever wants a normal life. It's very unhealthy. His dad seems to just care about himself and doesn't care that his mouth is costing his son money.

And, yet, the media keeps feeding the Lava mania and keeping him in the sports headlines. And, we are just as guilty as we keep talking about this piece of scum. The more we all do that the longer he will be around. I can't stand the guy and am sick of hearing about him on ESPN and all other forms of sports info sites.

fair enough - appreciate your response.
I'm just looking at it from the viewpoint that he grew up with his dad - and maybe he's just trying to get approval. I've known men much older who keep trying to get their father's approval, no matter how crazy they might be. And, really - he's still just a kid emotionally.

On the other side of it, he probably knows his dad is crazy and might be too embarrassed to say anything about it, publically.

I wasn't saying you are wrong at all. I agree with you but for lonzo the best thing is to at least distance himself from his dad a little or tell him to tone it down.

lol sorry, must have misread your post

I do agree wholeheartedly about Lonzo distancing himself - once he gets drafted it wouldn't surprise me to hear him telling his dad to go take a flying leap

I think you know I like your posts, and enjoy the back and forth we have at times.
But this one time, I can't agree with you. There are some parents who don't deserve any kind of honor or respect. Period.

But, he was one of the other two that Lavar was coupling with Lonzo on the Billion Dollar Shoe Deal. :joy:

Sure, understood. (And I agree with you. Some parents do not deserve respect but that doesn't matter.) I don't understand a lot of things but I do believe in the promises of God's word. That is one of them. It is not up to me to understand it. Honoring your parents does not mean partaking of their assumed to be, bad ways but as their child you must honor your parents as your parents. To not do so is animalistic. (Now don't think telling your parents they are wrong if they are wrong is bad but in doing so you never disrespect them and also give them the honor God demands of you.) Be Good

Is Jerry, still with the Lakers?
Could be subtle way of saying , Ball to Lakers is not a guarantee.

He retired in August. I was thinking the same thing. If it came from an affiliated account with the team, that could all but guarantee they are taking Fox over Ball

West has not been with the Lakers since 2002. He went to Memphis for 5 years and retired. In 2011, he joined the Executive Board of the Golden State Warriors, reporting directly to the owner. He also owns a small piece of the Warriors.
