I watched the replay and I'm tellin ya Jason Hatcher was ALL OVER THE FIELD making plays. I can't tell you how active that guy is and crucial to our defense he is...

I have never been this excited about a UK football defense before. We actually make stops when it counts.

Stoops has completely changed UK football and I've been watching for about 30 years.

I agree. I'm feeling it and I'm all in!

Loved watching how the whole defense seemed to FLY to the ball. Reminded me of the '77 team ... a little bit, one man makes a solid first hit, them one step later here's the cavalry for some gang tackling.

CJ Johnson was a man child out there. Talk about someone that was all over the field he had 11 recorded tackles and I think he got robbed of a few more that were given to other guys in gang tackles. He was drawing double teams and splitting them to make tackles on the opposite side of the field. Flannigan, Hatcher, and Ware were flying all over the field too

There was several of our guys on defense that played very well indeed. I must admit though that those times when we go to a contain pass rush like the first TD I lose it! There were a few of those where our DL seem to take up designated positions five yards away from Mauk and watch that frustrated the heck out of me.

He is definitely starting to live up to the Hype. One reason fans need to be patient with Elam. He could very well become a real force as a Junior like Hatcher has.

UK has several guys on the defensive roster that will play on Sundays.

i was impressed with the entire DL and linebackers. CJ Johnson, Melvin Lewis, Hatcher, Ware, Flannigan, Forrest, all played great. How much better does this defense look with Flannigan and Hatcher out there? My gosh, those 2 were difference makers for sure. Ware torched the the tackles all game and was getting hold quite often...he has improved every game.

JMO, Ware and Westry have the most upside of any of these guys on defense. Both will be high picks in the NFL draft.

That most likely had something to do with Mauk's ability to run. They didn't want to let him get going on the ground and wanted to keep him in the pocket and make him beat us with his arm.

You know why they do that, not sure what else we can do to keep the QB from killing us like last week?

I suppose we could spy the QB with a lber depending on number of receivers that release?

We definitely have our struggles with this.

Agree with most everything. The only area I'd like to see more improvement is at safety. I'd like to see Stamps and McWilson pick it up some. AJ dropped his head and missed a crucial clean up tackle that resulted in a huge first down for them on their first score. And McWilson seemed to be trailing his man two steps all game and got lucky on some bad throws or would have given up a couple of scores.

Like to see the freshman (West and Edwards) get some time there against Eastern to see what they can do. I think West came in for a short stint after AJ's missed tackle.

Hatcher played great. Not sure why he gets pulled on some 3rd downs with his pass rushing ability, but he has looked good coming off his suspension. Hopefully he's starting to realize his own potential.

Agree 100% so many guys playing lights out, Coach Stoops has brought a new attitude to this team we haven't seen since Coach Brooks but Stoops has brought in better talent!

I thought we contained Mauk fairly well. He averaged 4.5 yds/carry and had one long one for 14. Running QBs are gonna get some yards but we 'contained' him fairly well. 2 games in a row actually we've done a decent job with dual threat QBs.

I was very impressed with Flannigan and Hatcher and Johnson. My biggest frustration as a UK football fan is a defense that hasn't stopped a mobile QB in 30 years (though Saturday was probably the best example of us doing so). There were also several times on Saturday where we had a player stopped short of the sticks and then let them wiggle away for the first down, but this is just football today (I saw the same thing yesterday during the bengals game, so it happens in the Pros too).

Overall, I agree with most comments above....we're improved. Still a ways to go (as Stoops will be the first to admit), but it's nice to see teams actually respect us (guarantee you that Pinkel doesn't punt on 4th and 1 from the 50 yard line if this were the UK D of 2 years ago).

West and Edwards got snaps against missouri.

Regarding Elam he is a true nose Lewis did not play that much either against missouri. Huguenin and Johnson we're the tackles most the game. If Elam wants to play more he has to keep dropping weight and become more agile.

Speed, speed, speed. The staff has done a great job in recruiting. The difference is astonishing compared to the UK teams before Stoops got here. I have said it time and again- at whatever the cost, Barnhart must keep Vince Marrow unless it is a head coaching job.

Mizzou couldn't block CJ Johnson. He is very quick and gets great leverage.
