James Blackmon torn meniscus. Surgery--out 6 to 8 weeks

No ligament damage. If that was going to happen this is a good time, since he's supposed to be back before practice.

I feel bad for the kid. He watched Booker beat him to the punch and commit to UK, play in a Final Four, see his stock skyrocket and be drafted in the lottery. In the meantime, Blackmon got stuck in a mediocre program, saw his draft stock slip, returned to school and got hurt.

I don't care what he, or anyone else says, there isn't a person alive who wouldn't be playing the "what if" game.

Hate to hear it for the kid. Hopefully he gets back on the court ASAP and ends up in the league where he belongs instead of floating around on the IU campus like a character from an Anne Rice novel.

All true. Blackmon is a living example of why every school is not the same when it comes to chasing and reaching your dreams.

Hasn't he had knee issues before? Hate to hear it for any player, even the ones silly enough to voluntarily play for Tom Crean.

Or...Blackmon had a minor meniscus cleanup and will be fine, absolutely loves it at IU, is beloved in his home state, was on the B1G all-freshman team, was a borderline first round draft pick after the year but received tons of feedback that his defense is lousy and his athleticism needs to improve, and will start on a pre-season top 15 team this year.

AND is about one-third of the way to getting his college degree, just like his proud (UK) college graduate dad, his medical doctor mom, and he have always wanted.

and he's doing it at a worthless, has-been, irrelevant school. Hats off to him.

Well i bet their smart enough to send Vjay to UK

Indiana fans are the scum of the earth, the gum on the bottom of your shoes, the sludge on the toilet, the worst of the worst in college hoops.

My dad used to hate them. Growing up in Tennessee, I just didn't. Never really understood why? I've been alive since 1985 and they've been irrelevan since I was old enough to say "cooch cooch" my dad just feels sorry for them nowadays.

Now the people in the state, trash. I hate driving through Indiana listening to all the corn filled butt mouths and their accents and trailers. Pretty pathetic state aside form an area or 2.

Devin is also one-third of the way graduating. He has the ability to obtain his degree as well. If/When he does, he'll at the minimum have a 7 million dollar headstart on James.

Not to mention be a part of a blue blood program and be relevant. My God Indiana fan, people would KNOW WHO HE IS.

Complete clown. I'm glad he's there so that program will never again see real relevancy. What's funny is their fans know he's killing their program but there's nothing they can do about it. LMAO

I'm not denying that Booker has got it good. He has.

But what makes you think that Blackmon and Booker are the same player?

Booker had far greater athleticism in high school, especially in light of the fact that by the time they started their freshman year in college Blackmon had already had his first knee injury. Both of them are elite shooters and more or less the same size (Booker is listed as 2 inches taller) but that's where the comparison ends.

You are right there. Some Indiana fans (not you, as I recall) tried to say Blackmon was the better 'get' last year. There was even a Kentucky fan or two heard to make that remark -- Cal should have waited on Blackmon. I'd watched them both in high school and found that amusing. Booker was clearly the better prospect for college and the NBA. And that case was swiftly closed.

But good luck to Blackmon. I definitely hope his knee is not a nagging thing. I actually endured that as a young guy, and after the first episode never felt the same again on the basketball court.

I had an ACL and cartilage re-done when I was 25 after getting undercut on the bball court.

After that injury, I couldn't jump worth a damn.
Before that injury, I couldn't jump worth a damn.

See...no dropoff at all!

Hope the kid has a speedy recovery! Kid definitely made a bad choice in picking IU. He could have came to UK, we could have definitely used him! And theres no doubt in my mind had he picked UK, he'd be on an NBA team somewhere right now.

1) -->>Thanks, appreciate the sentiment
2) -->>Not sure why you think so; there is no real evidence to state that he feels that way at all.
3) -->>FALSE; UK had no real use for Blackmon last year; UK had plenty of shooters and Blackmon would've hurt UK's defense.
4) -->>I agree; if he'd averaged 15+ points, 5+ rebounds like he did at IU, and was a borderline 1st rounder at UK I think he would've been gone after one year

How much bigger is Booker than Blackmon? I only watched IU once maybe twice, but it seemed that Blackmon was to small to play 2G in the NBA

Blue Nation wishes a quick and full recovery to James. And we hope he makes All American and stars in the League someday and dies wealthy...after losing 30 games this coming season.

When you look at JB's recent year and Lofton's senior year they are really close.

Blackmon 15.7 ppg, 38.7% 3pt, 81% FT

Lofton 15.5 ppg, 38.4% 3pt, 84% FT

Blackmon the better rebounder, Chris the better defender (although not a great defender, but everyone is better than JB on defense).

Of course Chris didn't have a Yogi playing next to him and by his senior year every defense was designed to stop him.

Amazing freshman year he had hitting 47% from 3 and followed up with a sophomore year hitting 44% from 3 and 92% from the FT.
