What a sad state of recruiting. Three top 10 guys (including arguably the top freshman) a JUCO-All-American and an incarnation of DeAndre Liggins with a better jump shot? What the hell is happening, Cal?!?!
Probably true, but only because the guys ahead of him project as more NBA-impactful due to their athleticism and length (Brown, Ingram, Skal, Simmons). I think Murray has a top 5 freshman impact on the college game next year. He's a late bloomer for the most part, and guys like Newman will come in ranked higher because they're more recognized and have been legitimized for a longer period of time. I expect Murray to dominate the discussion over the other freshman guards come March, and more importantly for him, come June.
After Skal and Ben Simmons, there are no other players in this class I would take over Jamal Murray. Have seen most of the top 30 guys play a decent amount, and Murray is in the top 3. The kid gets buckets from all over the floor. He's like a sick Archie Goodwin/Devin Booker/Drake hybrid.
ESPN, though, does give him a 92 grade which would put him at 12 or 13 in their rankings. Zimmerman is currently 12th with a 92 grade, one spot ahead of Briscoe. Murray is 10th by 24/7 and the 24/7 national composite. 12th by Scout. Seems most services are putting him around the same spot, 10-12.
I'm assuming he said Drake(the rapper) because they are both Canadian.
Hopefully he's nothing like Drake when it comes to basketball.
Top-10 . He honestly should be the top PG in this class, even if he's more of a combo at this stage.
In a composite rating, we wouldn't quite top Duke. Like the guy above said about Kennard being 21. Matthews, our 4th recruit is down in the 30's-40's. Otherwise, top3 compared (Skal, Briscoe, Murray/Thornton, Jeter, Ingram) would give us the edge. Give me our 3 any day, with Skal having the highest ceiling and an absolute show stopper. Thornton and Jeter? I see them as 2 year guys, maybe 3 if they get recruited over.
I'm glad I'm not the only one here who thought Jeter was very overrated. I can't see a single transcendent skill that he possesses, and it certainly doesn't look like he does a lot of everything very well.
I understand Ingram's longterm potential, but think he'll struggle with the physicality of college much like Tayshaun and Justin Jackson. He'll be good, but I don't see a freshman star- especially if K plays him at PF. Give me Murray over him all day.
Ingram is a perfect 4 in Duke's system. I think he will flourish. He might struggle initially, especially on the defensive end, but ultimately he will be a stud, IMHO.
Disagree. He'll get pushed around and won't be able to check anyone. There's a reason these really skinny lengthy frontcourt guys rarely set the world on fire right away.
On defense, maybe.
Offesnively, he will do fine. Duke won't post him up much. He's a perimeter player.

Ingram is a little more athletic, a little taller, and a lot more aggressive than Jackson. I do think he will have his struggles early on but once he finds his groove he is going to be a stud.
Justin Jackson is the kind of kid you let take your daughter out and tell him it's okay if they're out past curfew because you know nothing is going to happen.
I'm not saying they're the same exact player. I'm saying they'll have similar issues. Name me a super-slight forward who took CBB by storm? Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Just based on your description, Anthony Davis comes to mind.
Not saying Ingram is Davis, just that Davis was said to be too skinny coming out of HS by a lot of people on this board.
He turned out to be pretty good.
Yeah, the best player of his generation, and Davis actually had some shoulders and legs on him. Strong comparison!
People also expected John Henson to be a stud right off the bat- yet another example.
AD23 is not only a once-in-a-decade talent, he might be a once-in-a-lifetime basketball specimen. He was a guard in a big man's body who developed the post moves and somehow retained almost all of his guard abilities.
Can't compare a skinny SF to him. Actually, I think it's safe to say there is no longer a comparison to Davis. The combination of late growth spurt, transition from a 1 to a 5, and basketball IQ just won't happen again for years, maybe ever. He's his own Half-man Half-God basketball creature.

Aside from Davis and Durant, you'd definitely have to stretch the definition of "by storm" to include guys like Hakim Warrick, Josh Childress, Julius Hodge, Ronnie and Corey Brewer, and both Zellers in the last 10 years, and virtually none of those guys did it as freshmen.
