Jamal Murray is first Freshman in UK history with two 30 plus point gms

Interesting to see that Skal's high game will forever be higher than KAT's.
KAT also didn't average that many minutes. Let's say he was on this team. He possibly would get multiple games like skal had once.

In the two 30 plus pt gms (33 v Ohio St. And 35 v Florida) Murray shot 7 of 9 and 8 of 10 from three or a combined 15 of 19!

You guys that say Murray isnt a "pure" shooter need to get a clue.

10 of the top 12 freshman high games are Calipari players. Which reflects a few things. The OAD era coupled with Cal's recruiting prowess has us relying on freshman to score like never before. Also, that list only has stats from 1961 on, as well as the fact that for many years freshman didn't play.

Loving me some Murray right now but when I look at that list I'm impressed with the games like 31 by Mash and 27 by Bowie and Rhodes where those guys had veterans around them.

Seriously not taking anything away from Murray's shooting but just got to keep things in perspective

Bathtub, You can spin it anyway you want to.
Bottom line is 1961 was 55 yrs ago and Murray is the first UK frosh with two 30 plus pt scoring gms.

The truely scary thing is with the potential for 17 more gms. Murray will probably do it 2 more times.

No spin. Wouldn't you rather not have to rely on Murray that much ? Only makes sense that we would prefer more depth in the offense.

And in that 55 years how many years were freshmen not playing varsity? Issel would have owned that list.

Bottom line there will be tons of freshman records set as long as Cal coaches during the OAD era.

Actually the 1961 is really meant to say that the stats are completely valid back to 1961. There are indeed players listed who played prior to 1961. It just may not be complete. (although in the case of scoring the lists are generally fully accurate back to the early 1920s)

BTW, if you're concerned about the fact that for many of those years freshmen were ineligible, I also have a list of first-year high scorers.

glad you chimed in Jon and that list you linked does indeed offer some perspective. I count nine 30+ games for Cotton Nash in his first year. Issel not on there as much as I would have thought (two 30+ games).

I'll give Jamal all the credit in the world that his name is with elite company.
