Jamal Mashburn was the most versatile forward to play at Kentucky

More versatile than Tayshaun Prince?
They were both super versatile. Mashburn a better rebounder, Tayshaun a better outside shooter. Both great defenders, I think Tayshaun was a better defender though. Mashburn stronger.

UK's lucky to have had both. Great players, great people. :)

Yeah, this shows what I was thinking, that Prince was not the better 3pt shooter. I think we all remember that UNC first half for him, but beyond that he was only "ok" from 3. Prince was the better defender, but I'll give it to Mash on everything else (and he wasn't bad on Def).

Yes much more versatile than Prince. Mashburn was a better 3pt shooter and his percentage showed it. He also was a better scorer, rebounder, steals and assist. Prince was a great player but Mashburn was much better.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. In my lifetime, the best basketball player and my all time favorite dude is Jamal Mashburn. Without a doubt, without a moments hesitation, if you were lucky enough to be around for his 3 years here, it was the absolute best time I’ve ever had. Nothing he couldn’t do, against Arkansas in SEC tourney, best ever. That’s saying a lot but that’s where I am.

still annoyed about this. Back in 3rd grade my family went to Indy to watch IU and Kentucky play at the Hoosier Dome. After we checked into the hotel my older brother and I wanted to go exploring. My dad said "bring a pad of paper and a pen, because this is where the team is staying" and we both went "pssshhhh, like we'd be staying at the same hotel as the wildcats!"

about 2 minutes later we got on the elevator and there was Jamal Mashburn. No pen and paper, camera phones didn't exist, and therefore no autograph or anything :(

Did Tayshaun never make an all star team? That surprises me since he was on the Olympic team
I don’t believe so, even in 2006 when 4 of the 5 starters made the team, Prince was left off. Mash was a perennial All-Star level player for a good 5-6 years, the East was loaded and he only made one team but his Career average of 19.1 speaks for itself.

I'll take the Monster Mash all day. Tayshaun was a very good player but Mash was the man.

Prince?? We've had 10 forwards better than him since.
He's not even in Mashburns league. Everybody thinks so highly of him cause of the UNC game, but he wasn't a game changer. He was at UK many years and couldn't lead for chit.

10? Go to work.

Most overrated player in UK history, with Bogans 2nd.
He was good, ill settle for that. But theres been a lot better.

Oh wait, they both played on the same team for years and couldn't even crack 1 final four. Blah Blah...bogans hurt his ankle in the tourney. Breaking news-- Bogans wouldve been schooled by wade regardless.

Lmao absolutely. I love Tayshaun, but he couldn’t hold Mashburn’s jock. No comparison.

I'm 61 and Mashburn may have been the best player I can remember at UK- maybe Kenny Walker and a couple others are right there also- I don't count 1 yr players because just not enough of a sampling size

David of course is the best player we ever had. No doubt. The most versatile player is Davis or Prince without question. Mash wasn't bad. But there are others with a better defense and blocking and glass cleaners around. With jump shooting and play other sports. Ravi Moss is another. Not half the player as good as Mash. But he's versatility was good.

He was awesome.
Smooth none of your post ever include any detail or statistics to back up your statement. Why was Mashburn great? Davis was great. Rupp was great. Stop being such a lazy ass and provide some details with your post. J-Dee provided some great input. Try it sometime.
