Jackson cancelled a workout for Stephens and Ainge after they flew to Sacramento. What was he thinking???

Kid may be talented but trouble. I do think that's one of the reasons teams like working with Cal. He doesn't stop when the season is over. He's a close advisor and realizes these are still teenagers who are prone to stupid decisions.

This quote from Ainge made no sense

Pressed on if the cancellation left Boston considering passing entirely on Jackson, Ainge said he tried to remain calm about the situation.

"No. No. no. Well, there were thoughts, yeah, I was mad," Ainge said. "We flew cross-country. Are you kidding me? I had to get up at 4 o'clock and fly back home."

They didn't draft him, but they didn't pass on him?

He did Boston a favor by showing his true character. The Celtics still got a very good player without the baggage.

Yep...
But he had made multiple stupid decisions... my 1st grader would say "that's a pattern"

When asked at what point he would be drafted (after the draft). He said "I knew I would go between TWO and five"

He must have known he burnt some bridges and there was no way celtics or sixers were never going to take him.

As Legler said on the broadcast yesterday, anyone who thinks that was a Jackson decision doesn't understand how these things work. The agents basically handle most all of this side, and the players take their word for it and show up where they are told to go.

I think the agent either messed up, or Boston wasn't willing to give a guaranty at 3, so they pulled the plug. Keep in mind Boston had already strongly hinted they liked Tatum, and have said multiple times he was "their guy" even at 1. If Jackson's agent was hearing the same, then It makes sense.

In the long run, I think both teams ended up getting their best fit. I have no idea how Jackson could have fit in with the guards Boston already has. In Phoenix, a lineup of Bledsoe, Booker, Jackson could be really stout in a year or two, as their skill sets really compliment each other.

So, the agent making that decision precluded Jackson from having the decency of calling the Celtics and telling them? Or apologizing.

Agents definitely have influence. But, Jackson said he made a mistake. I don't think he says that unless he was involved in the decision. Also, you make these decisions before coaches and GM's fly across the country.

Listen, UK players are not above making bad decisions. But, Cal would not knowingly let a player do that to a program. That's how you burn bridges.

Nor, am I blaming this on Self. I'm just saying Cal knows the process and stays involved longer than other coaches. He's not finished helping the players after they've played their last game for him.

The question was something like "was that why you didn't draft him, or did you have other thoughts about it?" That's not an exact quote but if Ainge said yes it would've made it seem like the only reason they drafted Tatum was because Jackson blew them off.
