IYO, Would Cal make a Good Athletic Director?

Hehe. You think Cal is going to be AD. He will be doing something fun, it will be going to Steelers games, watching his grand kids, it will be doing something to help out his former players in some way. He will be doing some sort of charity, running some charity or being Cal.

I could just see Cal coming in and looking at the budget of the swim team or air rifle team. Hilarious that anyone could see him in that position. He will be enjoying life hopefully, family, former players, grandkids not trying to hire a gymnastics coach.

He'll never be AD at UK or anywhere else. I don't think anyone that's posted here even had that cross their mind.

He asked if he would be a good AD.... not if we think he would ever be an AD.
I myself have no idea what Cal has for the future, BUT i think he would make a good AD... that's only my opinion.

Yea he would. He's also an outsider who would go to bat for his own over walkin the company line cough cough the fart.

Yes...hes creative enough to where he could leverage the badminton team to somehow benefit them and the basketball/football teams

No, I don't think he would.
Cal is a salesman, a promoter, he enjoys the spotlight. The AD should not be in the spotlight. I see it as an administrative role. Make good (coaching) hires, and play the university administration's games to keep from getting your budget cut.

How would he do managing all of UK's sports teams.
Calipari wants to coach championship basketball. I have never seen any evidence that he has any desire to be an athletics director. When he had management responsibilities in New Jersey, he hated it and got fired.

He would certainly be better than Barnhart but, of course, anybody would be better than him.

You're acting like Barnhart has been bad. He's had misses, but all of them will over this many years. Let's not act like our athletics as a whole aren't the best that they've ever been right now.

That's not why New Jersey didn't work out.

He's running all facets of basketball now with dp performing the mundane tasks, which is exactly how he'd operate as an AD.

All I said is that Calipari likes coaching more than he likes management. Which is the truth. I haven't seen any evidence that Calipari wants to become an athletics director.

Yes, I think Cal would be an outstanding AD, no doubt about that. I think he enjoys being an in charge type of person and has the personality to get major things accomplished. I have no idea if he would ever actually want to do such a thing after coaching, you'd have to ask him that, but I believe he would enjoy running the entire show and being in charge of major projects. He would have staff to handle the real mundane parts of the job. For those who say he would hate it, I think he wouldn't have to travel as much constantly recruiting and going with the team to all games, tournaments etc. And would have more time to spend with and enjoy his family and still do a bang up job for the university. He would still be loved by the enrire BBN and have plenty of ego satisfying attention. My 2 cents.
