IU dismisses Holt

Come on how brave, except he didn't dismiss his superstar recruit.

I understand him not dismissing Bryant. First offense, minor at that. Holt almost killed a teammate because of alcohol. The kid needs help

Any word if Clappy frenched him or gave him a reach-around on the way out?
reach around? that's a bit over the top sir. yes, even for clappy. no joke. and consider he himself invented the infamous pedophiliart moves only now referred to as the "teen tongue tingler" and the "pant pulling inspirer". the tutor of touch is more subtle than that.

They have a strong trio around the perimeter -- that can't be denied. Ferrell-Blackmon-Williams aren't quite as good as Ulis-Briscoe-Murray, but they have more experience playing together and can score some points.

The issue is defense, and front court play. They are counting on Thomas Bryant being a dominating power forward. Maybe. I don't think he's as good as Terrence Jones, never mind being a true dominating force like AD, but time will tell. After that, they have Max Bielfeldt who basically got cut by Michigan because the Wolverines thought they could get more out of scholarship, even for one year. He played some last year in UM's injury-ravaged season but wasn't effective. Then they have Collin Hartman, listed as 6'6'' 210 who they threw in the middle at times last year. He tries hard, but he's not really a B-10 caliber front court player. That leaves the two unheralded freshmen, Morgan and Anunoby. THese guys were signed as practice players behind Perea-Mosquera, Holt and Davis.

Maybe that front court gives them just enough to eke out wins by scores like 91-86 when the trio of Yogi, Blackmon and Troy Williams, along with Johnson and Zeisloft are all on fire.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of small ball with Williams playing at the 4. I'm pretty sure they did that a lot last year - Looking at their last few games, other than Williams players listed as Forwards played 44 minutes against Wichita State, 50 minutes against Maryland, 47 minutes against Northwestern, 57 minutes against Michigan State. I'm pretty sure, at least at that point, Williams was starting along with 3 guards (Robert Johnson being the 3rd). With Holt and Perea gone, the only way I see Williams playing mostly at the 3 is if one of their other freshman big men comes in and takes a starting position and 20+ minutes, with Bryant being a 30 minute a game player.

Most likely, it's the 3 guards, Williams, and Bryant which is a quite nice but undersized starting lineup, with quality depth being a serious problem - they have to replace 50 minutes per game with the departures of Perea, Holt, Robinson, and Hoetzl, with 38.5 of those minutes being from forwards.

I read where Perea was with Holt and the kid they just signed. Perea, as in the kid already dismissed from the team. Crean is gone after this year. Dang it.

The turmoil is certainly troubling, but they should be better this year than they were last year. Bryant will be an upgrade over anybody they could put in the middle last year, and the other 4 starters are their 4 leading scorers from last year. Depth is an issue, as I said before, but I'd expect them to be a borderline top 25 team this year. If they get a 6 seed and upset their way to the sweet 16, do they hang onto Crean even with all the off court trouble? Does the departure of Ferrell, and possibly of Blackmon and Bryant, have them staring at another 2-3 years of sucking as they "rebuild" to a sweet 16? Best case scenario for us viewers of the train wreck is for just that scenario to happen, achieve just enough to keep Clappy but coming back with a depleted roster only to be a doormat once again.

Does Crean have a picture of the Indiana AD playing "hide the Salami" with a billy goat? I can think of no other reason that he hasn't been fired.
