It's time again to think about expanding the NCAA tournament field

They need to go back to 64 teams, and then make a blood-oath to stay at 64 until the end of time. Adding more teams only waters down the tourney. Come March I want to see talented teams with very good coaching staffs square off against each other in a good game. I don't want to see a top 10 team play some multidirectional school with a losing record, and watch as they beat them by 50 or more points.

64 is a perfect bracket. Leave it the phuk alone!

Shoulda stayed at 64. Adding more teams just means some 9th or 10th place power conference team with an 18-15 record is gonna get in. It's going to reward mediocrity.

I could solve the problem if asked. Ideal bracket would have 48 teams with 1st weekend byes.
Take the next 64 (that makes 112), and have a week end tournament that goes to a sweet 16. Add this 16 to the elite 48, making up a 64 bracket, seed properly and away we go. [banana][banana] Only problem is the #113 being left out.:(

Needs to be less.

I would only let conference champions in, like in the old days. That makes the conference tourneys for the big boys actually mean something.

That would cut it down to 30 some teams.

Can you imagine if only one of Duke, UNC, and UofL made it in every year? Lil brother would rarely make the tourney.

Regular season champs, if not the tournament champs, should get automatic bids, too. Eliminate all but a handful of at large bids. Must have winning conference and overall records to qualify. No more stupid play in games.

Greediness coupled with stupidity will always ruin a good thing. 64 was perfect. By trying to create more Cinderella stories they will actually water it down.

I also don't agree with only letting conference champs in. Some great teams would be left out.

The only major change I'd like to see is true seeding from 1-64. 1 plays 64, 2 plays 63 etc.

The only reason expansion is talked about is because of the conference expansion that happened. The ACC and Big Ten want 8-10 teams in the tournament every year at the expense of the SEC and Pac 12 who have decent teams on the same level who are deemed inferior just because they're not in those conferences. Just last season Clemson was considered in the field at 12th place late in the season which was ridiculous. The field should go back to 64 teams.

The tournament in all reality was perfect at 32 teams. The best of the best go at it, and the regular season would be super, super important.

Expanding again, yuk. Watered down garbage.

Only thing about that would be the mid majors would no longer receive auto bids from their conference tourney. Just takes the fun out of some of it.

Not to me. I'm not concerned with it. The 32 best teams slugging it out for spots would be an insane season.

But 48 or whatever would be ok I guess. Allow some of the stud mids to get in.

My first reaction was similar - NO! There's only one reason to keep expanding, $$$$'s. The whole "first 4" thing is stupid. Who even cares. Why water it down even more? 64 is a good, natural number.

No, no, no, no, no! Regular season and high level game would have zero meaning. I do agree, however, weighting home losses or on the road wins a bit for seeding.

This, or at the most 48. Does the OP want a team to have to have a 10 game win streak to win the title

I think it is time to expand the tournament so that every team participates. It would only add one weekend and would had a lot of basketball games for us to watch. It really is the only fair thing to do.

Leave it alone. Seriously, if you can't get into the top 60 in the nation, do you really think you deserve to play for a 'national championship'? It's all about that $$$

I agree with all 64 (not 68) is a good number, although does 4 really make a difference.
But with 64 (or 68) you don't get the top 60 teams, you get the top 45 or so due to the auto births.

The tournament has one objective. Find the best team. One winner and a whole lot of losers. Expanding the field has almost no chance of improving that result. It won't improve revenue.

A feel good idea with no supporting rationale.

I can't blame Kansas for wanting it expanded, because they'd have a better chance of making it to the second weekend then.

Every team already has a chance. Theyre all technically already in. Its called conference tournaments. Win, youre in. No matter the record.

Those that think adding more games cinderella more likely, youre wrong. Its the opposite. The more they have to play, the more likely the small school is to succumb to the superior talent and depth of a bigger program.
