Pretty sure someone broke it down before how they report earnings differently or something of that nature, could someone run that by me again? How is it that UL apparently makes more money than any college in america?

You know it's bad when you have to resort to bragging about your program being the most profitable. Never mind that it's due to having games at the bucket, which was a corrupt endeavor to begin with. Par for the course.

If they hung a banner for each year they bragged about this, it would have more banners than their basketball program.

Same ole story.
They take 11 mil FROM the school general fund every year (UK and several others pay mils INTO theirs) that they count as revenue. Unreal how Frankfort allows this. More of the same corruption theme.
Combine this with the 11mil that comes FROM the Yum Center (keep in mind they at the tenant). Also unreal that the tenant makes the money...and then, of course, since this drains the Yum Center bank accounts, the city, aka, the tax payers of Jeff Co. cough up roughly that same amount to the Yum to keep current on the interest. Also unreal this is allowed by local officials.
Of course you can't explain this to UL fans not do they really care. The UL fans that I know who are actually aware of these facts simply excuse it as "everyone" plays dirty politics, so who cares.

Well said, HoopsDavid.

Add to all that the fact that the ACC is an unprincipled league of lowlifes who sell beer in football stadiums, which the SEC being classy does not allow.

Easy to accomplish when your slimeball University is embezzling funds from Kentucky Tax Payers, should be a State and Federal Investigation into that cesspool.Time to clean that rat's nest out.

What a silly thing to brag about, especially considering the BS accounting to make such a claim.

Interesting explanation - good and concise. But what's the source? I have no trouble believing it, mind you - just would rather have something more if I repeat it than "some guy on Cats' Pause said so"...

I dug a bit to get you the data on school funds.
Here is a link to the revenue sources. Looks like UL dropped its take from the school to a paltry 8 mil in 2014, down from the 11 mil in 2013. How big of them.
The revenue from the Yum came from various articles back when the deal was a topic for some minor news outlets that dare to touch the story. I will try to find it later.

....it certainly couldn't have much to do with merch sales. Here in Northern KY, I see more Xavier stuff than I do anything for Loserville.

I think maybe the single biggest point that nobody has brought up is that they go on and on and on about how UK is ruining the game - it's supposed to be this beautiful display of amateur love of the sport, and Cal is destroying it with his corporate approach and one and dones...

But the one thing they can find to brag about is that they've finagled business deals to profit the most of ANYONE off of this free amateur labor.

They also lead the nation in the amount of fraud they experience. I would like to have 10% of the money that has been funneled from UL since Ramsey has been the president.

They can win the profit title - we will take the National Titles and wins! No matter how much they steal from the taxpayers it still does not keep them from being in the news for the wrong reasons - Pitino flipping the bird, U of L athletic dorm brothel, NCAA investigations, President Ramsey in trouble, embezzlement by U of L officials... Cannot wait to see the NCAA nail them for impermissible benefits and violations for KatinaGate.

They may be, but the thing is, they don't care how they do it, legal or not, all of the money they made will be spent on lawyers cleaning up the dirty laundry after all of the trouble they are in now. Not being able to beat UK in basketball will stick in their crawl all year round, they have been trying to be on UK's level for 40 years and still are not, remember they wanted this series so bad and half of louisville is Big Blue, that's got to eat at them daily.

All the more money to provide prostitutes to those new recruits and their parents.

First it's not true, it's just the basketball side. They like to say it like they pick the years they want to compare their success to other programs. Second who gets that excited to be overcharged for thier entertainment? Stupid people that's who.

Yep. You know, we're living in a time when social change can happen very fast (obvious example, gay marriage). The idea that college athletes are being exploited and should be paid is something some people are very passionate about, and I could see that quickly becoming a hot button, controversial, if you disagree you must be a bad person kind of issue. In a very short period of time, "most profitable athletic program" could go from brag to a point of ridicule.....

" Didn't matter. It didn't mean anything. When I was broke I would go out and rob some more. We ran everything. We paid off cops. We paid off lawyers. We paid off judges. Everybody had their hands out. Everything was for the taking" Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) Goodfellas

Yeah, well as an aside, I am worried about people who argue by screaming over others/calling for censorship/building straw men far more than I fear the actual political ideas on the far left/right, because that censoriousness is so appealing to so many myopic individuals - it can quickly take over a culture, as you've mentioned.
Turning every single issue into a potential grounds for thought-crime accusations, interpreting people in the least charitable way possible and trying to get them fired over twitter, telling young people that you have a right to not be offended that overrides peoples' right to disagree with you - that stuff has already started a nightmare in Europe (people being jailed for uttering certain words, phrases, etc), and I would go to jail myself before I would let my worst enemy endure an hour in jail over holding the "wrong opinion".

I personally think that college athletes should be paid at the high major level, but I've heard intelligent dissent from the notion.

But much more importantly than my personal opinion, their hypocrisy is absolutely hilarious. Cal and his "mercenaries" are ruining the game with their "business decisions" (a phrase they love to mock), but they turn around and brag about this - the only leg up they have on UK. It is positively glorious.

Part of their arena was paid with our tax $'s That should help their bottom line..

My favorite one is "we went to and won our bowl game" after they lose in hoops. Way to move the goalposts when discussing basketball losing streaks. If we lose in football so be it, but the comedy when they lose in hoops(every year) is golden. It automatically turns them into a (insert sport) volleyball school, baseball school, men's soccer school. We know one thing they won't be which is the top basketball program in the country all because little brother is in the wrong state. Heck, Morehead State owns bragging rights on them :)

I would have to believe that all the racketeering, one-sided business deals, and malt liquor sales taking place over there contributes quite a bit to their profitability.
