"It'll Never Be This Good Again."

I don't like absolutes like always and never. If Cal wins another title, it'll certainly be the best it's ever been in my lifetime. Probably already is other than the 96-98 span.

Cal is Cal and always will be. It will depend on the classes themselves more than Cal at this point.

I've only been watching, really watching, since the mid 80's; and I've only really dug deep into the recruiting aspect since about '90. In my time nothing compares. The run from 96-98 was amazing, and I will say that it was absolutely crazy for me - I was living on campus thought those three years. But the last however many years with Cal has been over the top. I don't think we will ever see a recruiting coup like Cal has put on ever again. I love it.

Presuming Kentucky will never be this good again is also to assume that the rest of the college basketball elites will not only maintain their ability to remain at a high level once their present coaches retire, but also increase exponentially as programs.

That's more far-fetched than thinking UK could ever match a similar success to what's currently happening. Where are all of these elite coaches going to come from once Matta, Boeheim, Self, Williams, Pitino, K, Izzo, and Cal step down? They'll all be gone within 15 to 20 years.

Kentucky is one of those rare programs that isn't made by a coach. They'll be fine. It's the rest of the nation elites that, outside of UNC and Kansas, have depended on one HOF coach to lead them. That should be worry many of their programs.

Not that they're similar, but I thought when Pitino accepted the Celts' offer, we'd never recover. Who knew there would one day be someone even BETTER out there.

I'm not saying that this program won't have great success in the future, but this era will be looked upon in retrospect as the guilded age of Kentucky basketball. The best part is that the last chapters are still to be written. Enjoy the ride cat fans, I know I am, and thanks Coach Cal.

From 96-98 we were within a hair of back to back to back titles, winning two and losing in the championship game once. I love Cal, but he hasn't done that, though he still could.

5 different head coaches has won a title here so what other program can say that? Titles will all ways be won in Lexington. That is just how it is.

The best of the best will all ways play here and will all ways coach here. Cal has set this up for the future as well as now.

Even if we hire Brad Stephens when Cal steps down, we won't maintain this. Just hoping to remain in the conversation. That's all I ask as a fan.

There is no way UK will ever be like this again . WE have been the program for 6 years and will be for another 5-10 years ( when Cal retires ) . But after that we will probably have some lean years but it will happen to Duke when they lose K , KU when they lose Self ect so it is to be expected.

It is extremely tough to compare the past to the future without the benefit of hindsight. There will always be a next "guy". I am excited about the future of our program.

I have to agree with the writer, it may never be this good again. But, of course, I am figuring into my decision the impending implosion of the Cards, along with Cal. The combination of the two make it the best time to be a Cat fan, and I have been one since 1959.

This is "A" high point for UK basketball, but people, are you serious? Cal has one of the EIGHT titles UK has in the trophy case. Did those other seven titles get there by luck? They came in the past, and will do so in the future.

This is UK basketball, it was UK basketball 70 years ago, and will be UK basketball in 25 more years. The only stumble here, ever, was the hiring of Billy Gillespie.

Its weird how the rhetoric of Cal has swung 180 since his arrival and success at Kentucky. You begun to wonder if he is a changed man or if he was always the same guy but historically demonized by the media and his peers. You see him sitting by his wife at the Blue-White game and think that he is probably a solid husband and father - idk I guess you never know. You look back to events like the Hoops for Haiti telethon and the other charitable stuff he did (that most coaches do as well) and then you look to the current events. Events like his most notable contemporary, Pitino, who is embroiled in multiple scandalous affairs and UNC a comparable program that is embroiled in an academic scandal. It makes you wonder how one man so undeservedly bore a villainous persona for so many years and at so many levels. You then suppose this is his reward for staying true to himself and preserving and it makes me more happy for him over the personal gratification I receive from UK Basketball.

Now if we can get Coach K caught on some baby sea lion poaching trip.

I have a UNC friend who swears Duke is dirty just like everybody else but he gets away with it because he has a Paterno-esque hold on that town.
