I've been thinking about this for a little while now. Been thinking about it even more since the Knox commitment. We've heard the rumors that Cal is gonna pull like three or four of the top five players in 2018. If Cal signs Bamba, that would give us eight five stars and a four star this year with two five stars and a four star returning. Let's say that Cal pulls in, say, six top 25 guys next year. Are we starting to see the takeover now? Is Coach K done if this happens? Keep in mind, Cal is gonna be coaching the USA Under 19 Team. Thoughts?!

I sure hope so.

we look like we are going to be loaded from the 18 class and 19 class

add the fact that K and Roy are both ready for retirement at any time

if we should get that title this coming season..........it would literally mean there is Kentucky and then everybody else

It's a beautiful day to dream.

Agreed. If we finish the deal in 2015 and run the table, the takeover would've already happened, IMO. Cal/UK would OWN college basketball right now, had that happened. Especially beating Fluke in the title game for 40-0. :flushed:

No. No. No again.
Did you people not understand how difficult it is to win a championship
A takeover. Whaaat.
I'm not necessarily talking about a UCLA type championship run. If Cal continues to recruit at this clip and K and Roy retire, who's gonna challenge UK? Honest question.

The takeover is on the verge as in K and Roy are sooo close to being done and then who's gonna challenge Cal? The Miller brothers? Izzo? Notice I didn't mention Pitino. He's never challenged Cal in the 1st place. The stage is almost cleared for Cal. He's gonna do more damage than ever before the last several years of his career. Buckle up and enjoy this absurd ride were on........the hate is jealousy.

I hope this is the writing on wall for Kentucky & CoachCal.

I think it's been a process for Cal at UK and he's had to learn/grow on the fly.

He realized early on he could get the best talent year in and out at a level no coach has ever seen.

I think the lesson of the first 3-4 years was depth being important. Whether a Nerlens goes down or a Kanter is ineligible. You always need a plan B and never be held hostage.

I think the last 3-4 years has been about his roster construction. I think he's been focused on what type of players he needs to fit his style and how to succeed every year. You can get the #1 guy at their position, but are they gonna be what he needs? Skal and Zay were top guys at their position, but I don't think they were the guys Cal was looking for to run his team.

I also think this whole time was about building a reputation for the "takeover" once K and Roy started to get over the hill. He's got into the Team USA circuit. He's learned guys like Fox and Green may not be the best at their spots, but their leadership brings others with them. I think the platoon was a real good thing in the long run. Players now know they don't have to be scared of competition at their positions because Towns and Booker shared time and still are top NBA players.

I have felt this very same thing myself. I will beware I stand, lest I fall, but one can see Cal's star rising a bit just as K's is falling. Bamba and Knox shunning K is huge. I wouldn't count Reddish in Duke win column neither. If Cal got Knox, he can get anyone. KY and Cal are today's headlines while Duke might being heading to page 2. I hope so anyway.

I think he has been doing that. Every year we get 4-6,7 5 stars, he is insane.

This.

It's maybe the hardest title of all to win. You have one and done talents vs. whoever can get enough borderline kids to return. If these kids stayed four years like before , yes it would be a Cal takeover. It takes a little luck with favorable draws and officiating to win it all. Too many uncontrollable equations to dominate every year.

I think Coach K dabbled in the 1AD and got burned a bit. He took for granted how easy Juniors and Seniors are to work with, and I bet he thought he could retain some of these freshman for another year. Whatever his intentions were, it was a pretty botched experiment for the "greatest college coach".

His whole team fled after this year. Something is up. Maybe K is winding down, maybe he didn't handle all the freshman well.

But Coach K's failures are Cal's gains. He showed the world that what he does is pretty damn unique and that other coaches, even great ones, can't do it at his level. And Coach K was the only other guy attempting to do it. His failures have opened the door even more for Calipari.

Could be a fun few years coming up. If recruiting ended tomorrow, we'd still have a top10 team, with talent to be #1 in March. And a lot of that talent pretty much HAS to come back next year.

Beginning started 09 when he came here.

I would think that if you were to break down his process of implementation it's at stage 4 of 10. (Completely random stages).

My point is, there are still key things that needs to happen for him to become insanely effective college coach like never seen before.

One of the few major incidents that will allow the take overs to complete are.

1. Multiple of his players reach into MVP discussion in NBA. This would have great impact, especially if we can have guys at every position, but that's long ways to go. Our players in NBA are still young, so that's why i believe the take over is still early stages.

2. Retirement of K is a big factor as he is the main OaD competition.

3. More financial support that allows for better facility upgrades. I think his support is growing financially, and maybe in the future Davis would want something named after him so he can go ahead and donate 10 million. :)

these are just to name a few, not to mention Coach Cal will initiate something new and original as these major events occur.

I am optimistic that we're going to be really good the next 2-3 seasons, but man, you still have to catch some breaks to win 6 straight games in March/April.

It's just freaking hard.

I wouldn't rule Duke out yet. It's going to be interesting to see how next year turns out for them, because they will most likely lose their entire starting lineup - Duval, Allen, Trent, Carter, and Bolden.

After that, the cupboard is pretty bare - DeLaurier and O'Connell, who has almost dropped to a three star, and a couple of other 3-stars in Goldwire and probably Tucker.

I expect them to land a huge class next year because the availability of PT is pretty obvious - Moreso than with UK. UK will probably just need 3-4 guys. Bol or Bagley? Barrett? Williamson? Quickley?

He's been "dabbling" in the 1AD for a few years now. Won the 2015 national title that UK should've won while having 4 of em, one of which won Final Four MOP.

Valid point. I just don't see him screwing us like he has in previous years. Matter of fact, I seriously doubt he ever officiates another UK game.
Please be true, because if he does, we are cooked.

Cal is in his coaching "prime" for a several more years. We should be pinching ourselves for how good the times are at UK right now for us fans. It won't always be like this.

Weren't we talking take over when this all started with the Wall, and Cousins class? No school in the modern era is gonna " take over". Only so many scholarships to give, and you have to have a lot of things break your way. Just my opinion

Self/KU have a better record than us the past 10 years... Self will always be around. One and done is great... but there is always the possibility of teams/injuries like in 2012-13.

I thought about this as well. Would be about the only justifiable competition after K and Roy retire. Only problem is that Self can't win in the NCAA tournament on a consistent basis. Kansas Chokehawks.
