I hope not but he's done almost nothing with the Steelers for 3 years. Will another team pick him up? So many good RBs coming out every year and the league just doesn't value RBs like they used to. I wish him the best. Hope he's saved his money.

I think he's actually pretty good on special teams.

Lots of guys do nothing as backups. It's not like he's had much of an opportunity.

If he doesn't hang around in Pitt, he'll go on to play for the Texans or Ravens.

I think Pitt is his fit if management hangs in there with him. Part of that is me just wanting it to be. Go Steelers!

Agree. If he can't make it there he can't make it. He was definitely drafted into the best situation imaginable.

Unfortunately isn't working out that great, yet. Hopefully he gets another contract. It'll help that team once they're finally rid of the ancient big Ben.

The fact that Benny is a standout specials teams player means he will he on the Steelers roster next year and will probably sign a 2nd Contract with some team after that. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was with the Steelers. Harris is going to get 85-90% of the snaps, so the backup RB better be able to find some kind of role with the team that is useful. Benny does that.

Benny is fresh and RBs are high need in nfl. The Steelers don’t like him but another team will.

Benny will have a ten year plus career by just doing what he has been every year. Plays his entire butt off and is a great locker room guy. He’s still getting better and better with every passing day as well. I’m actually glad they got Harris and saved Benny a lot of wear and tear this season, he definitely needed it. Anyway, If he can find a team with a great OLine, he’ll be a heck of a backup for a long long time. ‘(Not that he can’t stay there)

Also, Benny will always be a favorite with the coaches and community with his personality. Of course that alone won’t get him paid but being tough as nails and giving you 100% Benny Snell will go a long way. I don’t think Benny will ever become a All Pro or anything, but he will work hard and is good enough to play a long time in the league if he can stay healthy.

Honest question: can you give Benny a second contract with league minimum salary close to $1 million ($990k for 4th year players) to play special teams and get 4 carries a game (on average)? Maybe but seems like there would be scores of guys who would be cheaper. I hope I'm wrong and he stays in the league for 10+ years. I love Benny and all he did for UK.

Yes you can. There are tons of players in the league who are signed specifically to play special teams. They may rotate into the game from time to time because of injuries or other circumstances, but mainly their job involves some aspect of Special Teams. The Steelers have a current example on the roster right now in Miles Kilebrew. Played out his rookie contract with the Lions as a special teams ace. Signed a second deal making a little over a million with the Steelers. Occasionally you will see him show up on the field as a safety but that isn't the reason he is on the roster. Special Teams is a huge part of the game. Finding players to make you successful in that aspect of the game is incredibly important.

I’d love to have him in Cincinnati to back up Mixon and play special teams.

Benny doesn’t have enough speed to be a bell cow in the NFL, but his effort alone is enough to keep him employed for several more years.

Disagree..They’re Oline has absolutely sucked since Benny arrived. Harris has been sub par as well and has had plenty of chances.

So far he’s been better than Harris.
Not a fair comparison ... Franco was a HOF'r... :)

The Steelers could target Melvin Gordon at running back.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be targeting a veteran back to complement Najee Harris heading into the 2022 season.

According to Pro Football Network’s Dallas Robinson, the Steelers could emerge as a “viable suitor” for Melvin Gordon. Gordon has spent the past two seasons with the Denver Broncos, rushing for 1,904 yards and 17 touchdowns on 418 carries (4.5 yards per attempt).

“Despite his baseline numbers, Najee Harris hasn’t been very efficient this season,” says Robinson. “But who can blame him? The rookie has played more snaps (862) than any other running back in the NFL. Harris’ 84.8% snap share leads the league by a whopping margin, as no other RB has even topped the 70% threshold (Jonathan Taylor is second at 67.5%)."

You're talking about 400K to keep a proven ST player who can fill in at RB. With the money they have, I'd spend the 400K and keep the known commodity.

Benny has another season on his rookie deal. Barring something completely unexpected he will be a Steeler next season.

I hope he's done in Pittsburgh. They never gave him a chance while playing that bum Harris every down. Obviously Harris got better but Tomlin is a **** tard for not using Benny more.
