Is Cal one step ahead of us on Diallo?

Consider this...if Diallo stays in and gets drafted in the first round, playing time is no longer much of a weapon coaches can use against UK. He can always say now, playing time is irrelevant. Come to UK, use the best facilities, practice against the best players and be a first round draft pick. Allows him to load up on even more five stars each year.

Calipari is more than 1 step ahead of us. But I don't buy your reasoning in this instance.

Does nothing for Cal. He's already at the top of the top as far as UK leading to the NBA due to him helping develop them and exposure at UK.

Cal has always stated playing time is irrelevant. He sells winning and learning how to play with other great players. He sells competing against elite players everyday in practice. He sells busting your hump defensively. He's never promised or guaranteed anyone a starting spot or a certain amount of playing time or shots. He lets them know they will have to earn everything they get.

He clearly has the formula that best prepares these players for future success.

Cal can say UK is the best None and Done school

^^^^^ Actually, he could say UK is the ONLY none and done school. :sunglasses:

He’s been saying that in so many ways already.

*Bledsoe/Wall both being point guards didn’t inhibit UK from playing them together.

* MKG/Davis taking 4th and 5th most shots on a national title team, with a 6th man also getting drafted.

* Lyles/Booker not having their draft stock hurt by being the 5th and 6th options on a loaded UK team (in Lyles’ cases, coming off the bench).

* Three point guards playing together (Ulis, Murray, Briscoe).

* Now it will be three forwards playing together.

But I agree with your overall point that this will only help his sale’s pitch, which by now is pretty much perfect.

If Diallo stays in the draft I hope this never happens again.

Cal is a couple steps ahead of the fans. Always has been and always will. Diallo stays in and Cal will find a way to spin it positive for recruiting purposes.

However, if he stays in, it wasn't a positive for UK and it never will be. Nor, will a similar situation be positive. It would leave too much of a bad taste in the fans mouth. Cal is mostly forgiven for what he says that isn't 100% program directed but this whole situation will just be too sour. However, it's why Cal never quits recruiting and will load up with as much as he can. He never assumes anyone will be back.

Armchair fans don't count.

Didn't we have all the proof we need for the "none and done" argument after Kanter?
Orton (who?) was a little bit of proof, also, in the sense that he averaged (what?) 10 mins a game and got drafted in the first round. Is Orton still playing for the Crippled Crawdads of the Tunisian Premier League? Being selected by Calipari does have its rewards (granted, Orton was recruited by Gillispie).
