recruiting players for this year?

He said a couple of weeks ago that he wasn't done yet.

One thing to remember: When Cal gets 5% tougher in recruiting that's a WHOLE lot of tough. Cal's 5% is a WORLD of different compared to BCG's 5%....

Done.I don't think Cam was coming here even if Diallo left.

I tend to agree. I think most likely Knox knocked us out of the m9st serious consideration rather than Diallo. I think he wants to play the 3 mostly and saw himself sliding in as the companion piece to Diallo.

I think we became a back up plan even if Diallo stayed in the draft..

Most likely, but it would be nice to add Johnson for this season and to have another returning piece for next year. Problem them becomes, does it create a log jam for the elite crop of recruits available in 18?

So yes, I'd say we're done. Cal typically plays a shorter bench anyway, and we already have a lot of mouths to feed.

I'm guessing he is finished and ready to get it going with the current roster. Be nice to add Cam but i doubt that will happen now.

What are Cam's other choices? Looks like he's got the same problem at 'zona that he would have at UK.
I'm sure he doesn't want to sit a year at UNC.

Oregon was after him too and he did visit them and they have the room and need for him.

How many of this current Kentucky team are expected to leave next year? Selfishly I am hoping very few, since next year's class is much deeper and would like to see KU land some studs without as much competition. :)

With 2 scholarships still available, I REALLY hope Cal isn't done.

Go find an Erik Daniels and Gerald Fitch type potential player that is a gym rat, has a big chip on his shoulder, and is fine sitting for two years. Start building continuity with these scholarships. Tai is a good start. If we grab two FR, they will be JR's and ready to play the role of "experienced player" in a couple years. Maybe we get lucky and end up with a Fitch or Daniels. Maybe it is another Jon Hood. Either way, take this chance to sign 2 players that will bust their take against the best players in the nation for a couple years without expecting PT any time soon.

Hawkins and Willis were such great assets last year. Bring in 2 players that'll hopefully replace them in experience and talent someday.

They don't have to be from Kentucky. Not at all. Just a couple kids that'd give anything to play here and are going to bust their ass to become a better player even if it takes them 3 years before they're ready to contribute.

The experience they would bring via continuity is something we need to take advantage of with these last 2 rides, IMO.

In my completely worthless opinion as always.

Id say we are going to roll with what we have. He might add a walk-on or two and use one of those schollys. But I think cam goes elsewhere now as were just too full at his position. I really think Cal though he was getting Bamba and thats who he was referring to.

Yes he is done. Cam isnt coming here now that diallo is back and we are not looking at anyone else. Cals comment about not being done pertained to bamba and cam.

I would love to see Bol Bol reclass and come in this season but I doubt that would ever happen as Cal is most likely pursuing him for next year. Would be a great defensive player and shot blocker with some offensive skill as well.

I hadn't even considered reclassifications. If a top big man reclassified, I could see Cal going after him hard to help diminish the loss of Bamba.

Or if another Jamal Murray happens to come along from the north...

I respect your opinion Kevin823, but I'm sure everyone said the same before Jamal Murray came along and ended up committing on June 24th, which is still a month from now.

With 2 open spots and no idea what will happen in the recruiting world, I don't think you can say we are 100% done with any kind of certainty.

If Bagley, Williamson, Langford, Smart, Quickley, Bol, etc. suddenly reclassified, I think it'd be game on for Cal. Crazier things have happened.

All in my completely worthless opinion as always.

Murray was a special circumstance. The reason i am confident he is done is because we dont need any more players. We are two deep at every position and can platoon right now if we wanted to and have two very good lineuos. Why do we need a skilled 11th and 12th man (or 12th and 13th if you count Wynard as the 11th skilled player? No one is available and we dont need anyone....two main reasons Cal is done.

Green / SGA
Diallo / Baker
Knox / Washington
Vando / Gabriel
SKJ / Richards

Wynard

No top 20 caliber player is going to reclass and start over anyone above with the exception of Bagley and there has been any indication he wamts to reclass.
So with that said any add on now would be a 3 star calIner guy who would ride the bench. We dont need any of those.

Probably will lose at least three to the draft. We also have two available scholarships that probably won't be filled this year. So probably looking at at least five open spots for UK next year.

You think we will lose THREE to the draft? If so, out season wasn't nearly as successful as expected. As many as 4 of our players have been projected as LOTTERY picks by a service.

I doubt that we see Diallo, Knox, Vanderbilt, Gabriel, or Richards return. Possibly even Green, SKJ, or Washington. Players come here to make it to the league aw fast as possible. If we have the season I expect, we will be lucky to lose 5 players to the draft. The scouts LOVE PJ and Richards both. If they show themselves as decent players, a team will take a chance on them. Diallo, Knox, and Vanderbilt are as close to locks as possible.

If those 5 are the only ones to leave, we will return Green, SGA, Jemarl, Gabriel, SKJ, and Tai and have SEVEN open scholarships. That is why I think that filling the last 2 scholarships is important. Not with top notch AA players, but higher rated 3* players that are known to be hard workers and do not expect PT anytime soon.

Even though with what we will probably return added to our likely recruiting class, we won't need them or their scholarships this season or next.

After 2 years in the system practicing against the best talent in college basketball, their experience will be invaluable as JR's/SR's while not scaring off any elite talent. We need some experience on each team. Even if it is only 1-2 JR's or SR's per year.

Using these last 2 scholarships to help accomplish that in a couple years seems like a wise move. Just look at what Willis and Hawkins did for the team by staying around and showing leadership, but in Cal I trust, of course.

All in my completely worthless opinion as always.

I didn't say we would lose only three. I said at least three. There is a difference in those two. I expected us to lose more than three.

crittel56, gotcha. Sorry for the confusion.

I see where you would call Diallo, Knox, and Vanderbilt as the only real guarantees.

As for a guess on the least amount of players we will lose to the NBA, I'd go with 5, personally. Those 3 with 2 of Green, Gabriel, Washington, Richards, and SKJ.

If we can somehow return 3 of those 8, I'd be ecstatic. Having Green back at PG would be killer especially. Plus bringing back 2 bigs with experience will come in handy quite a bit on next year's team full of FR superstars as we are likely to get 5 of Langford, Smart, Quickley, Bagley, Williamson, and Bol who are all top 10 players.

That's pretty confident. I suspect Langford goes to Duke or Indiana, Quickley goes to Kentucky, Bagley goes straight to the NBA, Williamson stays back East and plays for SC, Bol stays in California or goes to KU. Smart won't play with Quickley, Green and Alexander already on board and will probably end up at LSU.
