Interesting NIL inside conversation

No question it isn't just a UK problem. Some good older player at S Carolina went into the portal because they were pissed younger guys who didn't play much were getting more cash than they were.

I think he did a good job of explaining and predicting where NIL is and is going…still I don’t see the collectives going away.
Regardless, whenever $$ is at stake there are going to be squabbles and fights over it.

This guy just clearly explained to you NIL, Mitch, and the Cal/Stoops issue that is still ongoing behind the scenes.

If football wins out on this NIL issue, (and they probably should for the good of the university sports programs overall), then Cal and basketball MAY have to settle for less.

Cal isn't having it. So he is throwing his little power tantrums at Mitch and Stoops.

I wish I were AD for one day.
Make that 15 minutes.

To the point Josh made in his video about Iowa - I would love love love one of our UK sports journalists to ask these 2 questions to AD Mitch Barnhart:

1)would you ever provide to an NIL collective the name/contact information of all UK athletics doners?
2)would you ever provide to an NIL collective the name/contact information of all UK athletics season ticket holders, past and present?

Matt Jones says the problem is JMI keeping the UK coaches from helping promote and boost collectives. I bet the above is a big problem as well.

Don't expect KY sports "journalists" to ask tough questions of MB, don't want to jeopardize their free access to games and free meals. They're more interested in counting Wheeler's shots than asking difficult questions of UK administration.

Jmo but football and basketball pull from much different sources. Deserved or not, basketball has a much bigger national brand and basketball players are just much more marketable because of face recognition (is they don't wear helmets while they play).

Football nil requires an ad or someone else to constantly raise funds specifically for that purpose and will be a much more local/regional focus

I've mentioned this before, thought I'd revisit. Clemson has a grassroots organization started in 1934, yes...1934, called IPTAY. When it began it stood for "I Pay 10(dollars) A Year" and the money goes to Clemson athletics. I'm sure that $10 has increased significantly. Sure sounds like a collective to me. At last glance they had 18,000+ members and their budget was $40M....that's 40 MILLION Dollars. Surely UK can create something similar.

Mitch’s K-Fund contributions for the premium season tickets would be the quickest and easiest answer to help jumpstart the UK NIL fund.

If he would just take half of that donation and run a campaign to encourage the fans to donate the other half to NIL, that would really help.

But would he be willing to give up the control of that revenue????

I don't know anything about IPTAY but from what you describe it doesn't sound like a collective. That money isn't going to pay players. It's going to Clemson athletic department. Sounds like the equivalent to the k-Fund initiative where they ask you to donate $100 each year. That money goes to UK athletics. A collective's money goes to athletes for appearances, autographs, etc. Before NIL was allowed by the NCAA, fans couldn't directly pay players so the money from IPTAY could not have been used like a collective uses their money today.

Yeah basketball is never going to have problems recruiting talent. It will be even better once calipari leaves as some of the recruits may help UK win something that matters again.

This is the key. This far he isn't because he's become complacent and doesn't want to beat the bushes like he used to.

Find more donors and/or use alcohol sales to fund coaches contracts. Use existing and new donors to fund nil. It's literally that simple from an overview perspective.

Anything from the fans should be gravy. Common fans should never be expected to be a serious fund source for nil. 1) it is lazy and 2) a recipe for disaster because fans aren't in a position to make enough of an impact anyway

If you think that IPTAY WASN’T going to the players in some form or fashion you are misguided.

You don't know that. You are just speculating. It doesn't really matter to the point I was making. IPTAY isn't a collective in how the term is used today. Whether or not Clemson illegally funneled some of that to players doesn't make it a collective. Its purpose, as he described, was to raise money for the Clemson athletic department. That's not the same thing as a collective.

Coach Stoops was on my dang TV last night promoting UK NIL with an entire damn commercial.

A lot of this whining is just "old people yelling at clouds", and just generally being impatient. This stuff is brand spanking new, and while we may not be the "leader" in terms of NIL (and we never ever willl, btw), we damn sure aren't the worst either.

The other part of it is just pure delusional nonsense. For example, are you telling me UK football NIL ain't on teh same playing field as Tennessee, for example? No way! Or perhaps Miami Hurricanes? Do we not have as much NIL football cash as those guys? How in the world could Mitch let that happen...What's next? Is Michigan Football going to pay a player more than us! OH LAWD!!!

Once again, I'll urge everyone whining to log into UK's NIL donation website and deposit your 50k donation. Thank you.

The Alabama, Georgia’s, Ohio State, Tennessee’s, and Michigan’s of the world are gonna pass us by because Mitch and JMI won’t let coaches promote NIL. 🤡

Very simple fix. Each sport gets based of the revenue they make!
