i'm really sad, about this loss in particular (obviously), but also because...

We've had, without question, the best team twice (2010/2015) and not got it done. both times, Duke won instead.

We've had other years (2011/2014) when we struggled all year, then had a chance, but came up short.

And this year falls in-between those two scenarios. i feel particularly terrible about this one because it feels like we got robbed.

I'm not stupid. I know every other school in the country wants to have our level of success, but a certain level of "success" becomes the norm after a while. When Cal came here, we were so good, so immediately, that I instantly was thinking about catching UCLA. 8 years later, we've gained 1 (but at least they didn't get one this year and make it 12-8).

i just feel like we should have AT LEAST two more titles. i know this is a tremendously hard thing to win a title. it requires a tremendous amount of luck, how other teams may get upset in your path (or not in ours of course), and one "off" game or one "on" game from an opponent and you're out. the best team rarely wins.

it is tough to admit, but i've gotten to where i don't enjoy "the ride" of these seasons. in 2012, we were the best team and all year long i'm thinking ahead to March, like, are we going to have that one bad game and we blow it? we win, cut down the nets, and i didn't felt joy. there was excitement, but i mostly felt relief.

then 2014 we struggle and then have one of the greatest tournament runs in our program's history, so this tells me, it doesn't matter our record, we can get in the tournament, turn it on at the end (because we are always insanely talented) and be right there with a chance. this is an opposite scenario, but it also is why i don't enjoy the season.

i just keep thinking about how Cal has always said he won't do this forever. we pretty much all expect him to retire relatively young. so let's say he coaches 6 or 7 more years, i feel like we need to win 3 titles in said time, because no matter who it is that comes after Cal, we will not compete for titles like we do now. not every single year (2013 aside). there's no one else i would want besides Calipari, i know we are spoiled, but i just feel like we're letting titles slip away.

sorry so long, just venting.

If winning championships is the only thing that makes you happy, you are in for a lot of disappointment.

Cal is the best coach with the best run in my lifetime. And I've been watching since the mid 60's.

Again, for people that can't be happy. UK has had EIGHT championships in 100+ years. And Cal has one of those.

So, either enjoy the ride or GTFO!!!

You're life must truly be pathetic if you think UK fans aren't having the time of their life. Even worse for you, a non-UK fan........you have to watch us enjoy another several years of Cal's magic, if not another decade. Can your heart handle it? [laughing]

Why is someone called a troll for wanting more success? Anyone that thinks we shouldn't have, in the very least, one more is being disingenuous.

He's either a rival fan or a pathetic excuse for a UK fan, because this is the most fun we'll ever have as UK fans. I'm not interested in 4 sucky years and then a titlle, I want to be in the hunt every single year so my winters and springs are filled with fun. This is entertainment, for pete's sake. The number of titles we have on my deathbead won't mean sheet to me.

Well, over the last five yrs I definitely have taken a title and four bad years. That means we'd have nine.

With all due respect, I feel like this is kind of a "Darrell" issue and less of a "Cal" issue.

It's short-sighted to think that after Cal, the Cats will have a great fall back. I'm not buying that at all.

I'd be happier with a title, than none at all.

I managed to cram a whole lot of stupid into one block quote.

I agree. Cal will not leave without us having a homerun hire in hand. Like the late, great Al Mcguire said: "Kentucky basetball: they had it before you, they had it during you and they'll have it after you."

Someone is gay because they feel titles are more important than you do?

There's no mutual exclusivity between "UK is the greatest program with the most success across coaches" and "Cal has UK operating on a higher level than average".

I don't know what's more absurd: my suggestion of you dancing that way for 1,000 years in a ghost prison, or you expecting any of us to take your ill-timed, blatantly trollish posts seriously.

Get a grip. No one takes you seriously. Now scurry off and practice for tonight's dance recital.

I don't care who the coach is after Cal. As Al McGuire said, "Kentucky had it before you, and Kentucky will have it after you." That is very true. We may have a lull, but the fans of UK will make sure they get rid of a bad coach, and get one that can win. That's just the way it has always been at UK, and it's not going to change. We were all happy when we hired BCG, but when he didn't work out, he was gone. This will be the same of any coach in the future after Coach Cal retires.

Doesn't take much luck when the committee protects you and gives you the easiest path every year....and of course so many officials help out with the whistle.

Wrong.

Doesn't matter what College it may be, if you hire the wrong Coach, you will fall into the abyss.
Kentucky isn't special.

As in anything, if really smart people aren't in charge, your product will suck.

yep. uk has the best players, has a coach who demands effort and attention to detail with no gimmicks, and we get rooked in the end

it does kinda suck

The best team very rarely wins it all in college basketball. That's what happens when you have to win 6 do or die games in a row. No other sport is like it.

You can rip the guy for not enjoying the ride, that is a personal issue. But he is correct in that we have lost several really good chances to add to our overall number of titles. Sure it's difficult and this day and age no one is going to win every year but in just 6 years we had 5 golden opportunities to win it 5 times and managed one. We have left titles for the taking on the table and that is not even debateable.

Not sure why fans don't see this. Those opportunities are not going to keep coming. You have to cash some in.

wow, ok, i'm not a UK fan now? all i was trying to say is i wish we had cashed in a couple of 1 or 2 more of the amazing opportunities we've had to bring home another title. but yes, i do think there will be a drop off when Cal leaves. we are Kentucky, but cal is also cal. no one like him. name one coach out there now who could fill his shoes today and us not have more than a slight drop off. you can't.

my only thought is that if Donovan would leave the thunder to come here. i know he didn't want it before, but if hypothetically, he wants to get back in the college coaching now, where else would be better than Kentucky? and he's still very young.

We hate to admit it, but if Cal's run has proven anything at all, it has shown how much LUCK is involved in winning and losing the NCAAT! In 2012, I was scared. We obviously had the best team in the country by a large margin, but then we lost the SECT final. (I have no idea how?). Were we going to have one similar "bad game" in the tournament and lose? Who could say?

This year, I saw the Murderers' Row lined up against us, and got that ugly feeling in the pit of my stomach, that our guys just could not play 6 perfect games in a row, which is what it would take!! Unfortunately, I was almost right. Our guys did play pretty well, but certainly did not have any LUCK against UNC, except for the bad kind.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, by a long shot. But, I DO believe that our road to the FF, almost every year, seems to be tougher than random chance would suggest it should be. And, it is FAR tougher than what UCLA had to do for about 15 years. That is one reason why we may never catch the Bruins.
