Made me watch the entire game because we were in it until the last possession! At least GuyMo and Joker were kind enough to have us down 21 in the first half so I could focus the rest of my day on other games.
Ok, so not to be a smart a$$ but we played a close game into the fourth quarter with an SEC opponent. Before we all lose our heads and become totally apoplectic about our team, slow down and consider the fact that we seem to have coaches that can manage a game. So the offense looked like garbage at times but consider the fact that Dawson did slow the pace knowing that we weren't clicking and adjusted in the second half to keep the backs in to pass block up the middle. Yes, much can be said for the lack of mid-range game, utilization of the RBs and TEs out of the backfield, no 3 step drop passes, etc. On the other end, the D played a great game and kept it close when you have an opposing QB making Vick-esque escapes and about 3-4 shoestring catches by their WRs to keep drives alive.
We had very few bad penalties, Dawson did make effective adjustments for the first time and we played for field position for much of the night. I know I will be labeled a sunshine pumper but this team is still on the path to 5, 6 or even 7 wins. More importantly, in this business of football, the guys running the show (AD, head coach, etc.) have their act together and have a good long term outlook. Cal and the hardwood guys spoiled us on quick success (dare I say microwave society) but football is a totally different animal and that's why a coach needs to be more of a CEO and establish a business that works from top to bottom. Takes time. The John Wall of the gridiron ain't walking through that door.
