On his Monday Radio call in show. I was in shock listening to this guy. I do not want him anywhere near our Cats. I have never heard a grown man make excuses while saying he does not believe in excuses. It was laughable and sad at the same time.

Im not sure how to post site on my phone. It is on 600 out of memphis , called the Josh Pastner radio show.

Some points he made for those who won't listen to him. One that made me cringe was his reason for low attendance. He said all there games are on TV. And with HD available people would rather stay home and watch on the couch in HD. Then he called the fans fake. Said the reason Cal had such good attendance was because they we're winning and the cool thing at the time was going to the games. Basically saying over 10 thousands fans have stopped coming because of awesome HD on there TV and its not cool right now. You cant make this stuff up. Your talking about going from 16000 tho a game to under 6000 tho today.

When they let callers through it got interesting. The first guy said the reason for the attendance drop off was because Pastner is destroying the program. The man was cut off halfway through the word program. The next guy questioned JP on his idea of games being on TV being the reason for bad attendance. He also asked JP if he took any responsibility for Austin Nichols leaving since he uses that as a huge crutch. JP spent 5 mins on a childest argument about his TV/HD excuse. He responded to the AN question by saying he was blindsided and it was to late to get quality big man to replace him. First , anyone who followed that situation seen just how bad AN wanted out. The kid hired an attorney to help. How in the hell would the HC not know his most important player was that unhappy. AN said himself all summer not once did he hear from JP or the staff.

It is very entertaining listening if some are interested. JP even calls out the local beat writer Jeff Caulkins. It was childish and showed just how big of a excuse making pansy this guy is. I want him no we're near our young men. A Shi$ storm is brewing in Memphis the entertainment factor is at about a 8 of 10 right now. How JP whined and made excuses Monday shows me his exit speach will be classic.

Thats a sinking ship UM. They need one or the other. A guy who can recruit but then most of all coach kids out of Memphis. Cal gave up on Memphis kids. Way to much baggage and family to get involved. Or a coach who can bring in talent outside of Memphis and coach them up. Cal was a master at scheduling. He knew between January and March he was getting zero attention. So he scheduled some good teams then used a crappy conf to warm up for March.

Pearl would thrive in that setting. Not many other coaches would.

According to lots of people in Mtown, and a few connected AAU guys, cal and Paz have been enimies since Paz lied to the Barton's while cal was in China.

He's not a cal guy, he's a lute Olson guy. I don't know how many times it has to be said. Pastner is wasted goods. He's greatly damaged his career. He won't be at UK. If he is, I'll eat crow. But it ain't happening.

Cal doesn't need the damaged Josh Pastner to recruit to UK. He will be out west.

I never heard that Stevens doesn't curse, and I see him screaming quite a bit at times. But it's a good example of a Pastner "like" coach able to perform without being Martin. But I like the cal way. I like coaches that get on players asses. Think of how boring this would be if all coaches had Stevens personality type. Ew.

He gave insight on how it was with Cal those last few days. The man screams excuses and points fingers. No way coach Cal brings this jerk back after blaming Cal to recruits for sanctions and now laying the facts out like Cal blew the program up before he left.

I have given this idiots roster before. He had a good talented experienced team returning , while adding a Mac Donalds top 5 player from Duke. Not to mention he added the JC big man player of the year.

The guy is delusional. I hope Cal lets the guy find a job at another program. To me he is a excuse making cry baby.

Hurley SN coach one of his HS teams in the inner city of Jersey. the guy speaks the language that these young men are use to hearing as motivational tools. it is what it is. Pastner is looked at as a Opie Taylor goof. in the neighbor hoods those young men grew up in JP was not a coach , but a possible victim.

Gary Parrish and mike Decoursey have both reported after sitting behind the Duke bench in the NCAA tournmanent that no one, no one, drops an F bomb more than coach K. He is notorious for his foul mouth.

when I heard he had suspended players for cursing I knew he was in trouble. the guys he recruits are use to a certain vocabulary and intensity when it comes to motivation . go to a 12 year old AAU game in down town Memphis . it is what it is. these kids grow up in a strong in your face environment . when you bring milk and cookies to a argument with them, then you become a joke. Pastner has had to suspend more players for being disrespectful towards the coaching staff then anything off or on the court. now this was not just a one year thing. every year Pastner has been the coach at UM he has suspended a player for respect issues towards himself and the staff. from Sallie to Burrell. every year it has came up. I remember Weatherspoon getting like 3 games for making fun of the coaches on the busses vocal speaker. lol that should of been your first warning in year 2 . now in year 7 Burrell is sat for similar things. Sallie was not asked backed for his grad year because Pastner was intimidated by him. no lie. there's all kinds of stories that make you laugh over the 7 years.

OK. I'm just saying Stevens has coached in the MId West and now with Professionals. not so sure he would be a guy like a Cal who could demand or motivate the type of kids at Memphis.

I'm sure his style works with some. but probably the best thing about a guy like Stevens is he does not push his way of life off on his players like Pastner does. Stevens gets respect from his guys because he probably just accepts them for who they are and is a basketball coach and not a life coach.

Ok the difference first of all, is Stevens is actually a damn good coach and knows what he's doing. I mean, Pastner is God awful. Like, one of, if not the worst floor coach in all of the NCAA's. Just watch them and get ready to laugh. It's nothing but AAU.

I hope he stays at UM forever. They can't fire him until after next season anyway, after missed NIT and NIT.

I help coach AAU basketball in Memphis. My buddy runs a very elite group. I've said it and said it. Pastners "good boy" image doesn't jive with the Memphis scene. It was never going to work. These kids have Christian albums that have worse language than he uses.

I tell people all the time some of the best kids I've ever been around are from the inner city of Memphis. if some of those kids had half the chance as those kids outside the city they would shine. but these young kids will cut through your BS so fast and hustle you out of your last dime in your wallet. very street smart and on guard. listening to them talk you would think thug. but get them a lone and really get to know them , man it would blow you away just how smart and prepared. thing is a guy like Pastner shows weakness. these young kids smell it a mile a way. as much as they want it to work , it just won't.

had an opportunity to work with a lot of gang members and former. the ones I worked with in the end I was helping to get them employed and make some legitimate money. it took time and me and some of the guys had to have heart to heart talks and arguments , but I've never had more satisfaction then when I seen one of those young men making a good pay check going home taking care of his and showing back up to work the next day ready to get better. it was a great feeling welding and the company I was with let these young men make money with out hitting the streets. I use to tell a buddy of mine who owned a business. his call outs for a day maybe I have car trouble or I'm sick, my call outs were my brother was shot or my sister is in jail for salting drugs I gotta watch her kids.

good people. and it takes a certain type of person who can motivate and earn there trust, JP is not one of those type of people. I would of laughed at him with them.
