If you could replace Joel Justus & Tony Barbee. Who would you replace them with?

Penny isn’t taking anything from UK. He was able to pull one player that we really wanted and that’s highly ranked because he already had ties to Memphis and Penny. Jefferies was only recruited by UK to land Wiseman. He also has ties to Penny and Memphis.

Penny won’t take one national recruit from UK that’s not connected to him before hand.
We will see it is still very early. Sure Wiseman had played some for him, but it was enough for Cal to offer Penny a job. I think Penny would have given us a huge leg up recruiting. More than just Wiseman.

Anyway I really don't give 2 shits about Penny. My point was I would like to see us add someone to the staff that a kid may have heard of once in his life. Maybe some former players that want to get into coaching if there are any with promise. Even though they probably hadn't heard of him it was nice having Rod you could talk to kids about his time in the NBA.

So what did Antigua do to make kids idolize him. Why start a post like this. It just causes trouble. Cals not firing anyone

Listen cal needs to get a former UK player on his staff: someone like Wayne turner who was a tough nosed player. Idk about his coaching abilities but someone of his mindset. Padgett is another former player to think about.

The second guy needs to be a former nba player. A recognized name. First name to pop out at me is Marcus camby. I’ve read he wants to coach. Idk with his track record as a player if they would allow it but someone in his mold.

Hardaway screwed up big time imo if he was to join cals staff next season. He took the fast cash instead of learning how to run a d1 program and coach at the same time. If hardaway goes to coach as an asst to cal we get Jeffries, wiseman, and who knows else and win a title next year. Instead he’s gonna get some guys who won’t amount to even an ncaa berth. He’s the Kevin Ollie without the inherited team. Coulda done it right but ego and money

I didn't know Kobe was actually coaching his daughter's team. :flushed: I thought I was just being silly. Thanks to the person who gave me the heads up. :fistbump: Gotta start somewhere. What do you think a recruit would do when Kobe Bryant walks into their living room and sells UK?

Jefferies is junk. We only recruited him to help with Wiseman, who’s not Anthony Davis.

Cal needs a lot to go right to win a title with his system and I don’t think Wiseman would have necessarily brought that.

Realistic two, Brandon Roy or Mike bibby. Two successful former nba guys with extremely successful high school basketball teams they coach Both have nba name recognition.

I believe you need a degree to be a college assistant so most of the players that have been mentioned are out. Orlando would be choice A but I believe he has some stink on him and with the current climate you can't take that chance with him coming back. I hope that dissipates and he could return though.

Rashon Burno is a guy who is young that is making waves in the recruiting world at ASU. Another guy with a local connection who is known on the recruiting trail is Darrin Horn.

Need to bring John Pelphrey home. And I think Arkansas pulled the plug on John way to quick.

Our assistant coaches don’t seem to have any power whatsoever. They all just sit on the bench looking like they’ve just had a vasectomy.

One time I would like to see one of them in Cals face telling him to start pressing and forcing pace. Instead, they just sit there like the just had their testifies removed.

Cal will not bring in a big name to coach beside him. That's not how he is and his ego unfortunately won't allow it. That's not a bad thing, just saying.

That would result in them not having a job. I can recall many times where Cal has told one of them to shut it down when they are telling him or yelling at one of the players. Most assistant coaches run practices and drills. I know sometimes(not always) Cal isn't even at practice. For what it's worth.

Orlando Antiqua. I’d be fine with whoever else is the other hire. I’d be ok with keeping Justus if it meant we got OA back. I might even be talked into keeping Barbie if it meant Orlando back, but that’d be a tough sell.

Good God. If you're going to beat the same drum, at least learn how to spell his damn name right.

AntiGua.

How many "big name"" assistants are there? He had Rod Strickland, who is a legend to some folks, and now we have Tony Barbee, who has been a head coach at a couple of solid programs. Which assistant coaching names are bigger than that?

I was referring to the ones that have wish lists of Jalen Rose, Kobe, Brandon Roy, Mike Bibby. He just isnt going to bring in someone that has a bigger name than him as an assistant. His track record proves that. Cal is old school and will stick with 'his' people and block out the noise. Which I applaud. He knows what value these guys he has brings to the table without a bunch of whiny fans telling him what to do.

He'd be a huge upgrade from Barbee, particularly on the recruiting trail...

what recruit has he landed since he left UK? I get people are enamored by him when he was here because of the recruits UK got. But I think there is much more to the NIKE angle than some want to believe. Look at Capel at pitt, is he hauling recruits now? Nope.

What school is he at? [laughing]

Tell me what big Tony has done other than get hammered and made an ass of himself a couple times.

Justis is ahead of him by a mile...Cal keeps him on since he's a legacy for him but the rest of us are
waiting for him to land that gig at Idaho State Tech.

I kno it would never happen but I’d love to have Tracy McGrady! He would be a great hire plus he’s always said he would’ve come to UK.

I believe Barney and Andy could work well with Cal and our players. We could also give Gene Wilder and Buck Wheat a look.

Pelphrey gets my first vote. He has succeeded everywhere. Had great classes a Arkansas, but didn't get to finish with them. Not sure why he hasn't already got a job here.

Second is a former NBA guy. I really like the idea of Brandon Roy. T-Mac would be amazing but a bit too much of a stretch.

Or wait 2-3 more years and see if Ulis is interested in moving to the coaching route.
