Calipari needs a big class next season and he needs the majority of them to commit in the fall - given UK's lack of significant players that might scare away recruits. The fans will not be eager to approach a "wait and see" next spring given the protruding strikeouts this spring.
The last month has been his most disappointing yet. Time for some serious good news before he experiences the overtly melancholic side of the fan base.
I remember Matt Jones making fun of Louisville a few days after the elite 8 because they were hemorrhaging players with no elite players to replace them.

Matthews is 6-6 right? If so, then we only have 4 guys over 6-6... Skal, Lee, Willis & Poy.
If he's available, and interested, we need to give the big guy (Dickerson) a look. We could use him for foul trouble... hell, even for practice, for that matter.

Height and big guys will with out doubt be an issue. Lee could get up in the 230lb range, be surprised if Skal was 220 and AP around 240...we is in some trouble i do believe..
The Dickerson kid is a player. Would be ranked much higher if he was 6'10 for example.
As far as our guys do not look at "stars" look at them being basketball players and the skill they have and what they bring to the table. For a team to be competitive you have to have guys providing those roles that it takes to win. And ask your self does Ulis do his job as a point? Does he pass well? Does he control the pace and dictate how the game is run? Does he score? Does he defend? What does he bring and what are his shortcomings. Etc etc.
Now go and do this to all the players we have on the roster and add the sum of the whole and ask yourself is this a title contending team? A FF team? sweet 16?? Etc etc.
Many of the parts we will putting on the floor are just huge mysteries and you will have no idea who is what until the season starts. We know that Cal doesn't have faith in Lee, Willis or Hawkins. If he had plenty of that in em then we would have seen much more of em on the court but yet we haven't.
Poy is an inigma where as a freshmen he had a couple of games where he was a monster (Duke) and others where just was non existent. As a soph he was more in the non existent mold until NCAA play and he was firing on all cyclinders and looked good.
This year we couldn't really get a grasp on him as he was playing the 3 and tore his acl which was a huge blow to this team and I'm sure to himself. Very comfortable in saying that if we had him we could have won the title fairly easily as he had experience in the NCAA tourney unlike most of the other guys who seemed to choke.
Now the freshmen, Skal is unbelievable, Briscoe can have some solid nights but is not a dependable shooting guard, Mathews is a nice defender but will need some time for his offense to catch up, Mulder is the wild card. I think our future is going to be with this kid. He can be the guy who can give us the needed points to make us a elite 8/ FF caliber team or if he isn't ready for big time Div 1 and sits then we are more than likely a 2nd round team.
Don't make it out this team is a title team and if we anything less then your going to be pissed. Don't make it out that this team is going to suck as they will win some games but we are going to lose some as well.
One thing that is going for us is that all of college ball is down and has been for sometime due to the talent leaving and how low skilled the players are these days.
If we land Murray he will start at the 2 and he could be the guy who could lead our backcourt to a title. That's how impressed I am of his play, not at some all star game but actual games I have watched him in. With having knock down shooters and scoring threats from the outside it relieves a ton of pressure away from our bigs. Count on Skal getting doubled and tripled most nights. Hopefully coach will devise a game plan where their are cutters going to the hole for a lob or pass from Skal.
I think as we stand now we will be a good defensive team but a mediocre scoring team unless we have permiter scoring. We just have too many questions to label this team as the title favorites. Too 10? I'd say ya they probably are. If Lee is a double double guy? He has the potential to be that and so does Poy but will they?
