I wonder about Blackshear

People do not realize how far this fall cost Blackshear in $$$$

- Even if Harrison's don't make a NBA roster, kids that get 2nd round drafts/roster invites, high calibur college players, etc..at least can go overseas and command 6 figures for a fair amount of time to get some good cash under them before their playing days are over.

Blackshear probably doesn't even get a sniff of the option to play oversesas like Aaron Harrison will likely get. To see a kid fall from 5 star, to not even a NBA prospect to now...not even a really solid collegiate that won't get the better offers to play overseas...it is a mess to see how much this kid loses in earning power in his 20's/30's. Why kids play for Pitino is beyond me if they are halfway rated.

Don't get me going on Harrell dropping out of first round...he was the next Kenny Faired 2 years ago off the NCAA championship...now he's a 2nd round pick.....Pitino is as selfish and at best a terrible choice in your career's best interest to play for.

Why didn't the Courier Journal put his picture on the front page?? I thought Rick develops players?? Lol

This is a pretty laughable post.

Blackshear has the same opportunity that Aaron does at this point and will just as likely spend time in the summer with a team. Like Aaron his skill set will be recognized and he will be given D league or overseas options to continue his career.

Maybe you should go back and re-read the op question.

Some fools may've mocked you, but this is actually a solid assessment, in fact probably the most accurate post in this thread.

Blackshear and Aaron are essentially in the same position and on equal footing now, with neither ahead of the other. Both went undrafted, but both got signed by NBA summer league teams--Blackshear by the Spurs, and Aaron by the Hornets. With those two guys, their college careers are now essentially irrelevant. What kind of opportunities they get after this summer will depend upon how they perform in the coming summer league, and what kind of opportunities they get in future years will depend upon how they perform wherever they're playing next year (whether in the D-League, overseas or wherever). Nobody outside the state of Ky really gives a shit how they performed in college any longer, it's what the do from here on out that counts.

And, btw, whoever it was who said he wouldn't even get any overseas options is a misinformed ignorant. Yes, he will, plenty of them if he wants them.

There are so many overseas professional leagues that it's pretty easy to get paid somewhere.

Blackshear underachieved but he wasn't so bad that he won't have an opportunity to play for pay somewhere.

I wouldn't bet on either making an NBA roster at this point. Aaron's confidence is shot and Blackshear never really got better.

this is a serious question for people in the Aaron Harrison NBA camp. Outside of hitting 1 game winner and 3 other shots that gave UK an edge late over a 2 year period which I can assure the NBA couldn't care less about has he ever done anything to impress you more than Doron Lamb? Darius Miller? Deandre Liggins? Cause to me I'd take any of those three guys in a second. Aaron just isn't that good. He is a solid(what should of been 4 year college) player who may, and I mean may like probably not play in the NBA for a season or 2 at the most then be playing with Ramel Bradley in Tel Aviv. Nothing wrong with that he'll still have the oppurtunity to be a very rich and successful man, but he's just not a NBA caliber anything. Blackshear is the same way, Cal went all in trying to get him before he signed with UL, his shoulder injury screwed him up a good bit and Pitino making him play Small Forward and Power Forward at times hurt him as well, he was a pure slashing 2 guard with a very good 3 point stroke that become an under confident wing catch and shoot guy until the last 10-15 games of his senior season. He almost single handidly beat Michigan St. how that last play didn't go to him was bananas. Anyway hope the bet for everyone and I actually think Andrew will have a decent NBA career too.

Good post.

Who is this Blackshear guy people are talking about? I thought this was going to be a thread about a legitimate basketball player. Guess I was mistaken.

Let's pull this topic back up in the future....

- I agree that Aaron Harrison and Blackshear are in a similar boat...I'd argue Aaron Harrison will have a slightly higher calibur offer to play overseas than Blacksheaer based upon his game/rating at this time.. (THis of course assumes both don't make a NBA roster...which they won't...and both desiire to pass on d-league and play overseas...I have no idea their leaning at this point).

Also, you can hardly argue Pitino and his match up zone/hack-attack defensive philosophy along with one dimensional pick/roll offense hardly develops players game at all. What has Blackshear added to his game in 4 years,

But the difference is...Pitino keeps his guys around longer and longer and thusly driving down their prospects after college by association. What happened to Montrez Harrell was ludicrous...2nd round pick when he was projected bottom lottery earlier. And this isn't a unique scenario...it happens on literally every decent kid out of his program (exception maybe being Luol Dieng).
