I don't care that they are almost meaningless when it comes to winter production, I still want to read about the players actually playing free-style, no-defense, all-show games.
What are you summer-school students doing with all of your free time that mom & dad are paying for. Where's your priorities.

Just read any thread from the last 30 yrs on this topic and substitute this years players wherever you think it applies. We have won 25 titles at least based on play during the summer.

- Willis is lighting it up. Best shooter in the gym
- Ulis is the team leader.
- Mulder is surprising folks. Gonna be a lot better than we think.
- Matthews is gonna be the glue guy. Does everything.
- Briscoe is a bulldog
- Hawkins can jump high
- Labissiere is a freak.

^ there ya go. Summary of every pick up game report you'll read from now til October.

Marcus Lee has been giving Skal all he can handle. It will be hard to keep Lee off the floor.

I read where Cal was experimenting with a 5 guard lineup in pickup games. Matthews was playing the 5, Mulder the 4 while Murray, Briscoe and Ulis were all playing point. They were also experimenting with a 1-1-1-1-1 zone defense that has absolutely shut down the offensive flow of the opponent. It's going to be a great season!

Apparently Sam Malone grew like a foot over the summer, has been participating in pick up games as of late and has been really challenging Skal and Poy, love it, is it October yet???

actually the reports are the best thing about this time of year but they have been sparse lately. I never pay attention when someone talks about someone unproven like Willis in the summer but if someone says Briscoe is doing this or that or Poythress is shooting better I do pay attention as that usually carries over but hearing how Jules Camera is going to be the next Mashburn when he was average his first 2 years is a joke .

Frank Kaminsky was less than average his 1st two years. Players don't always develop at the same age. Think of all the pro players who never made a splash in college.

What exactly defines a "bulldog?"

The info can still be interesting, you just have to know to interpret the pickup game reports with the blue tinted glasses off.
Things such as:
Harrelson is hitting every 3 he shoots = Harrelson can hit the occasional jumper, not only a post player
Ulis is driving and dunking on every trip down the court = Ulis is working on penetrating more
Patterson scores on the jump-hook at will = Patterson is working on a jump hook
Aaron and Andrew are going at each other every possesion in every game = brothers are pushing/challenging each other

That is dead on . To act like it means nothing is stupid but it isn't the end all be all either.

Stuck my nose into some pick up ball at Craft Center this morning and was surprised to see Perry Stevenson handing out some pop tarts to Lee and Skal. It's crazy what you will see at the pick up games during Summer.
