......just for fun, do you think the dysfunction in Cleveland helps or hurts our chances of keeping him?

I think Cal has his mind on perfect seasons and catching UCLA, so I think he's here for a long time, but what do you think the storyline would be if Cal had bolted to the league to coach LeBron and they had the season they're having right now?

means absolutely nothing.

Not sure Coach wants to coach Lebron more than coaching Davis...

besides...why is there notion that coach cal wants to coach NBA?

why do people make this assumption that he wants to coach in NBA that badly......

He hasn't called coaching in the NBA an incredible mistake numerous times or anything..

And my goodness, he has a ton of his old players in the NBA, why would he go to a team that doesn't have a single one of them, especially when he could have the opportunity to likely waltz into New Orleans, and say "Hey, I would like to coach Anthony Davis, Tyreke Evans, and win this team some games" even if he was interested.
He's not going to the NBA, that's final. Get it out of your system. Scream it from the rooftops if you have to.

Coaching Lebron, this crap is so stupid, who cares about the nba, college basketball is more popular than the nba, the nba can only function in big cities where there is lots of money. The common person couldn't even afford to go to games, also coaching there is really baby sitting and the players make more money than the coaches most of the time, so if some players get mad at you they can get you fired and that has happened several times. College is about teaching and learning the game and the coach is in charge and calls all the shots, why on earth would he want to go back to the meat grinder for a few years to get fired again, he knows how it is and he has enough money. I still don't understand the thrill about coaching Lebron.

We're all CAT fans, but some of you people are just incapable of having a civil discussion.

I simply asked the question of what would the storyline be if Coach Cal had gone to the NBA to coach the Cavs and they were having the season they're having right now.

Was there lots of talk about him going before? Yes
Was he seriously thinking about it this year before most of the team decided to return? Probably
Will he be approached again? Absolutely

I personally think he's chasing records at Kentucky and is here to stay, but that doesn't mean his name isn't in play for the Cavs and every other NBA job.

I think Cal,like Pitino, had a taste of the NBA and discovered he belongs at the college level. Cal will stay at UK till he retires.

Not entirely true. I welcome another discussion of Cal to Cleveland.

Helps. No way Cal touches that potential dumpster fire. Sorry, but I've never been a Lebron fan. Whatever his talents it takes a team to win in the NBA. They put together the pieces, but to date anyway seems they don't fit so well. Probably that darn Dookie lol. I don't discount Cal trying the NBA again, but not this year. Not there.

Cal saw Pitino leave and openly regret it...Cal is a very smart man. The whole Camelot thing isn't far from the truth for a winning University of Kentucky BB coach.

Cal has won one NC in six years. So if he is to eclipse UCLA he's looking at 18-24 more years based on past performance.

I agree. I always hear Cal is going to eclipse UCLA. Well he better start winning more than he has. I feel like he should have atleast 3 at Kentucky already. Its really mindboggling how close Cal is to having won 5 OR 6 titles, but only has 1. I love Cal though, and wouldn't rather have anyone else.

Its mind boggling how many opportunities Coach K has had at National Championships but didn't win. Yes I know he has 4 but he has lost just as many. Cal will get one or two more in the next 10 years if he keeps up what he is doing. You cant win them all. To much luck involved.

I would quit worrying about Cleveland for a while because Mark Jackson will be their next head coach. Besides, Love will probably be somewhere out West (Los Angeles) and LeBron will single handedly destroy that team with his utter lack of anything resembling quality leadership.

Cal's not going back to the NBA.

He plays mind games in the little gaps of doubt to his advantage with the "this is a ten year job" rant, and it gives him leverage with the fans and makes us play nice in the sandbox when things might not go well from season to season.

As this thread indicates, some of our fans haven't learned anything yet about this tactic and continue to take sizable gulps of naivety.

He would have to go to a program that will give him complete control. It will take a special deal. Right now the pros aren't going to pay him a whole helluva lot more than he's making at UK. He has a pretty sweet gig here and despite the allure of watching LeBron play 80+ nights a year (which is really all he would be doing) he has all the perks he would ever need. I think he is really enjoying turning young men into millionaires and owning college basketball.

I wouldn't be surprised if he left for the NBA eventually. I don't think he's the first candidate for that job though. The dude is a talker. I wouldn't take anything he says too seriously.
