I think the football analogy may hold water

I will forever think that one of the best things that ever happened to Kentucky football was when Louisville got really good in the mid 2000s. All of us football fans can understand why we will never consistently be better than Florida, Alabama, Texas, etc. But when Louisville got really good, and beat Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl (later beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl as well), all of the sudden, things changed. There were no more easy excuses. No way will UK fans ever understand how Louisville can have a hell of a team, and we can't.

Baseball works the same way. None of us baseball fans expect the same level of sustained success as LSU, or Florida to name two, but when you see Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Louisville, MIchigan(!!) going to WS, even winning the college WS, it is really hard to understand why we have to be dead last in the SEC in baseball. We just built a beautiful ballpark. It is past time to figure it out. If Mingione is not the right guy (and it sure seems like he is not), then Mitch needs to pull the plug, same as Joker.

I’m calling my shot now, Mitch pulls the trigger after the Missouri series. We have a full week off before the next series against Tennessee.

This is where Im at. Fans showed we do care. When things were going well people showed up. Call it fairweather but thats reality for any college sport not named football. Basketball and baseball have outlying schools where attendance is good regardless (ie UK hoops, MSU baseball)
Theres never been any legitimate reason we cant have a perennial power program in baseball. Football has its reasons and even then theyve been mostly rectified. But baseball has only ever been about the administration giving its full support. I feel that has changed, but now you've got to question this staff. Coach Ming seems like a great dude and I really want this thing to turn around. Feels like he would be "our guy" were that to happen. But it's time to see progress and results. Honeymoon is over.

I believe that there are quite a bit of players, former and current, that dislike Mingione and believe he is fake.

He gives off a nice guy persona, but that isn't who he is as a coach.
Ahh OK. I will admit, he came across as way over the top super positive to the point of being too much when he called in to KSR for his motivational Mondays. I did like those calls though. I found it odd he just stopped doing it.

I’ve heard through others as well as some former players that he is extremely two-sided. He has his picks and ignores the rest. Also heard from the stands that him and Jimmy Belanger didn’t get along and that’s why he left as soon as his contract expired. Could all be BS but who knows.

Maybe, but supposedly this is why Henderson wasn't retained and after that first year it looked like a no brainer, but has been a disaster ever since. If this season doesn't turn around quickly , then at least by season's end MB is going to have to make a change. At least Henderson and his staff could recruit.

All true.

That would explain why our guys look unmotivated.

I think some of it you can see from the players. There is a lack of leadership throughout. I think that begins at the top. It is also a possible reason that you see some guys leaving early that might not need to. For instance, Reed from a year ago. Gabriel claimed it was that he was, 'homesick.' I don't believe that was the real reason. However, to be fair, that is pure speculation and I have no inside information that actually confirms that.

Leadership has been a problem since Minge took over. 2017 had it a little bit. But right now, there is no clear leader in that dugout.

Another thing, did anyone watch or listen to his comments after the game yesterday? It was all smiles and just said we need to play better. Well, no kidding. But his mannerisms just bothered me. You just got swept were you played about as bad as I have ever seen and you shrug it off like its no big deal.

Kinda like Democrats going on Fox...afraid of tough questioning.
