He tried to steal my happiness, but I just laughed and smiled and said "Like the late Al McGuire said about Kentucky basketball": "They had it before you, they had it during you, and they'll have it after you."

He mumbled something and moved on after that. LOL.

That's still the most flattering quote I've ever heard about our program.

Was thinking about that Al McGuire quote yesterday when listening to that ark radio sportcaster rant.

Al McGuire was walking "Wit and Wisdom"

Read some of his quotes from the link above. He sounds as a precursor to Cal.
Samples: “Help one kid at a time. He’ll maybe go back and help a few more. In a generation, you’ll have something.”
“If a player leaves Marquette and doesn’t have some of my blood in him, then I don’t think I’ve done a good job.”

Some other quotes about UK from McGuire:
"I've seen all the programs, touching them as a coach, a player, and as an NBC broadcast commentator the past four or five years. I have touched all the so-called capitals of basketball, but when it gets down to the short stroke the only true captial of basketball is Lexington. I even think there are times when the horses kinda bend down a little to the roundball."

"My genuine opinion of the Kentucky basketball program is that there is only one and it is top drawer, Park Avenue, and that all other basketball programs in the country think they are, but they are not." - Al McGuire
