I know obviously it's been mentioned many times, but I like the consistency of our guard's this year compared to last year's team. We obviously don't the size that last year's team had. Having better guard play will win you alot more tournament games than having a good front court.

Ulis is the consummate floor general.
Murray is a go to guy.
Briscoe has size and defends.

They all have very high basketball IQs.

We are going all the way.

Anyone who debates it is foolish.

Love the twins, and these guards have their work cut out if they want to be as successful, but it is what it is. This is an amazing guard combo.

I like our front court play last year better than this year.

We'll see the end result eventually.

when you have 3 PG running the show...

we had 4 TO between them. This is the best backcourt for Coach Cal's era.

I knew Murray would be really good and ulis too. But briscoe shredded the cookies tonight. We just have ball handlers for days and speed. Our guards play like they've got a pair too. I love them.

Until next season :pimp:[smoke]

hahaha, the thing people don't talk about much is how Ulis practically doesn't turn the ball over during big games.

I just don't think there'll be any other PG who'll be that in control. Wall and Bledsoe combined to TO about 7 per game, which is insane from two players.

I don't think Fox and Monk can be that in control, that'll be really impressive.

I felt like we were in control after half time, because we didn't give them easy points, and then we would get easy points. It just gave us so much space for other mistakes.

I always supported the twins. But I always felt like andrew was worried about playing perfectly, which often led him to slow down when he should have pushed the pace.

Ulis is so in control. He epitomizes Cal's philosophy of "play fast, but think slow." Ulis is always pushing the pace, but when he needs to bring it back out or slow down and regroup, he does. Constantly pushing the pace and probing wears other teams out on defense, mentally as much as physically, because they have to be 100% alert 100% of the time.

He is a special player, with two other special players in the backcourt with him. They compliment each other perfectly.

This backcourt is one for the ages!!

Ulis has the ball on a string, defends like a beast for his size, understands tempo.

Murray is a stone cold killer! Mr big shot, with a maturity to his game that is just incredible for his age!

These 2 alone make the best backcourt in the country.

Then you add Briscoe, who is a power guard who rebounds his position as good as anyone we have had and looks to be a tough dude!

Guards win chanpionships!!!

I said in the summer this team would be many things over last years team

A. built more as a unit. A college team
B. Better guards
C. Way more coachable players.

I didn't get slaughtered over the opinion but I got it thrown back at me pretty good. No one wanted to walk out on ledge with me.

Welcome everyone. [cheers]

Spot on assessment. You knew Duke couldn't spurt back off of TO's, quick points...UK always was getting up shots and making Duke go against our D. UK got eons of easy points which created the distance between the two teams.

No twins out there, of course their is going to be better guard play. For every good thing they did a drive to the basket and toss it up ruined it.

Our guards last year, twins, Booker, Ulis, Hawkins, were really good. But last year was a baseline dominated team because of KAT, WCS, Lyles. This year's guards are better than last year, because Ulis is a year older, Briscoe is a better all around player than any guard we had last year, and Murray is 1 of the 2 the best college basketball players in the country.

We need the referees to keep calling the game with the new rules. I think the recipe against this team will be to zone them and try to turn it into a football game. If we can keep the opponents off of them, we will be very good.

Our passing is better right now than at any point over the last three seasons. That will take us a long way.

What a clueless thing to say. Bashing the twins is bush. Andrew was drafted by an NBA team, and Aaron has a 2 year NBA contract. That doesn't happen to bad players.

Really uncalled for, you can enjoy this team without bashing guys that took their teams to a championship and a final four. No way you look smart saying stuff like that and it doesn't make this team look any better.

Each of our backcourt players play 'slow'. Not in the way that it sounds. Each one of them are VERY good at slowing the game down in their heads, i.e. they are way ahead of the game.

one of them just needs a mouth guard hanging out

The twins were very good college players and did a lot for UK during their careers. But, IMHO, Ulis, Briscoe and Murray all start ahead of them if they were juniors on this team.

How could anyone NOT like our backcourt better this year than last year? Our backcourt was average at best last year.

I didn't Love the twins. Liked them alright. But I said then and will say now I'll bet guard play improves.

I agree, I never saw anything special about the twins, there was not one phase of the game they excelled in. If not for their size, they would have been in D-2. I wish them well, but glad they are gone. I said early on that our guards this year would make everyone forget the twins.

Tyler Ulis is simply amazing...totally in control, protects the ball, understands pacing, a great passer, and he sees the floor like no other. He's the type of PG that wins championships.
