and have for a long time, especially when he ran the point for the Spurs years ago. He was always very hard nosed, hard working, and classy.

Except for tonight, of course, I hope he does well. I'd like to see him bring the Tide back to compare with some of the tough Wimp teams, of Horry, Spreewell, etc.

I think the Tide is very fortunate to have him.

He's carries himself with class and is a good coach with a nice resume. He will succeed and he was a welcome addition to the conference.

This conference has talent, always does, it just needs more cache...Avery has some.

I'd love to be able to dress like him. Will the NBA come calling again?

He's done better than I thought he would do this season. Not because of his coaching but because if his personel.

Give him a couple of years and he will have Bama ranked and be a threat in March.
Barnes and Howland as well. Sec did well last season in coaching hires.

I have no issue with Johnson. Dude has always presented himself as a solid guy.

The voice though....

He's a Hell of a coach, but as soon as UK beats Alabama, you won't like him anymore (tounge in cheek)

Agree with this 100%. Not a big mouth, trash talking, stunt pulling coach that hates UK. Seems to be very respectful of our tradition.

Watched his post game from the other thread. AJ is a class act and very respectful coach. Great guy for the SEC.

I saw Avery play back in the day, and you could just tell he understood the game in and out, and was a leader on the floor and in the locker room. He oozed future coach. Honestly, I see the same things in a certain Mr. Ulis....

I am happy for Bama and Avery Johnson. He can have a great deal of success at a school where basketball is not the top dog. I'd like to see them contend with Johnson at the helm.

Your right Bird Averitt was from Hopkinsville and what a player he was wow back in the day.
I have a good friend from Hopkinsville who had the misfortune of trying to guard Bird when they were in HS he said it was the most humbling experience he has ever had scored 55 on him and luckily they took Bird out in third quarter.

He has impressed me. SEC has a nice stable of coaches. The results might not be there just yet due to Barnes, Howland, Pearl, Johnson etc. being early in their tenures but I would put our group of coaches up against any conference out there. It's only a matter of time before the league is a top 3 league again.

They miked Avery Johnson up for the game last night, and his calls to his players reminded me of this classic episode of the Letterman show:
