We’ve done this before. But when you really sit and break down the 3 point shooting numbers for Kentucky while Cal has been here we haven’t even had a good 3 point shooting team. Most years it’s not even average.

3 point national shooting rankings since Cal's arrival:

09-10: 179th in makes; 154th in attempts; 227th in %
10-11: 74th; 142nd; 9th
11-12: 219th; 295th; 38th
12-13: 237th; 273rd; 141st
13-14: 161st; 294th; 230th
14-15: 285th; 311th; 152nd
15-16: 197th, 242nd, 77th
16-17: 214th, 224th, 163rd
17-18: 340th, 346th, 136th
18-19: 325th, 345th, 123rd
19-20: 339th, 349th, 123rd
20-21: 259th, 272nd, 182nd
21-22: 297th, 325th, 117th
22-23: 297th, 320th, 152nd

It’s simple common sense, if you use the 3 point shot as a weapon, you become extremely hard to beat, if you don't, everything you do on offense becomes a struggle.

Yea you were right all along. I was wrong. The dude is an idiot. He’s ruining the program.

He can’t see what’s right in front of him and he refuses to adapt.

Wow. According to these numbers we’ve only cracked the top 100 4 times total in all 3 categories, combined, over 14 seasons. I’ve never done a deep dive into it, but, I’ve always known we don’t take, or, make a whole lot. But, damn, lol.

On makes & attempts we have been inside the top 200 only 6 times, total, with 4 of them coming in his first 2 seasons & the last occurrence happening 7 years ago when we were a blistering 197th in makes. Most of those numbers are mid 200s-mid 300s. These stats are a direct result of the archaic offensive scheme we continue to roll with every season. Very few shooters & zero spacing equals this pile of shit. But, coach Ingalls wouldn’t have it any other way.

I agree you need to "use it (the 3pt shot) as a weapon". The more tools in your toolbox that you can use, the better off you are.
But I don't want us to ever go the direction Bama goes and become "dependent on the 3". Because there are always "off nights" the more difficult the shot is. Ideally, I would say going 9 or 10 out of 25 per game would be a good target.
Cal has not had a UK team average 20 3pt attempts/gm (highest was 19.9 in 2017). Comparatively, Tubby had 3 teams average 20.8-21.8 (2001,2002,2006, which were 3 of his 5 worst teams, but none of those made 35+%)

But even more efficient than making 36-40% of your 3's, is ATTEMPTING and making your FTs.
And that is an area that Cal's teams have done less and less (getting to the FT line). With the exception of his best 3pt shooting team (2011) EVERY one of his teams until the past 3 years averaged 22.6-28.7 FTAs. The past 3 years it has been 20.4, 17.6, 19.2. The % FT makes has improved, the past 5 years ranging 70.6-79.7%; where as 5 of his first 9 teams made <70%.

So yes, we need a few more 3's per game (4-6 more), made at a slightly higher rate (35-38%); but we ALSO need to get to the line more!

I think we need to be a lot closer to Alabama than a lot of people would like to admit. I think we need to be shooting 22-25 a game.

I’m not talking about the specific number but more so their dependence on the 3 point shot.
