I hate to say it, but...

I sense a double-digit loss coming up in the near future. We're off our game and have been very lucky these last two games that we pulled out wins. If we don't figure it out soon, I think we're going to run into a buzzsaw and be on the receiving end of a major beatdown - similar to what happened to Duke today. Perhaps at Bama or at USC.

If we can survive those two games - or even lose one or the other in a close one - I'll feel a lot better about this team going forward.

Alabama has no offense...so doubtful.

SC? You need to watch other SEC games other than UK's...overrated SC.

So OP's line of thinking is that anything that happens to Duke applies to us? Interesting.

Do you really hate to say it?

So we haven't lost a game, yet you sense a double-digit loss soon? You couldn't start with "I see a close loss coming up in the near future" and then work your way toward double digits?

Winning in overtime is a far cry from losing by double digits.
I certainly wouldn't start getting the shakes because another team isn't able to do what UK does, and win off of its defense.
This is what happens when Duke shoots 34%, they lose games by 14 points.
Twice now, UK has had a poor shooting night, and twice, UK has one those games because of its defense.
Once, Duke has had one of those abysmal shooting nights, and once, Duke lost by a lot.

If UK loses, I don't believe it will be a double digit loss, I think it'll be by less than 5. UK and Duke are very different teams. I wouldn't be negative on UK because Duke failed to stay undefeated (like any of us expected them to do that anyway).

I don't think so. I'm thinking the opposite... with 2 close calls and Duke's loss as examples, I think the Cats are going to have a No-Cal Conference and get things straight... THEN Cal will come in for his part.

Note: I didn't say we wouldn't drop a game by a couple baskets... but there'll be no "major beatdown" involved.

i think people are confusing college football with college basketball where losses during the regular season matter and take out out of good bowls/playoffs.

Our team will be alright as long as we learn to score points against the variety of different defenses used in our conference. Getting good shots and scoring points involve different strategies against different defenses. We kill teams that play us man to man because of our length. Playing against a zone is different. Zones are beaten with ball movement. Everyone is going to play a 2-3 zone against us until our players learn how to beat zones with ball movement and good shot selection, instead of trying to drive into the zone. This is where young teams can struggle sometimes. But no one has beat us yet.

Don't know about a double-digit loss but with Poy out now this team is too young not to lose a few games.

First of all, I'm not one to overreact to regular season losses. I think this team is going to lose at some pont and it could even be a decisive loss.

I still don't think it's that big a deal. Last years NCAA champion UConn lost by 30+ to Louisville, and at the end of the day, it didn't matter. You can learn as much from losses as you do wins.

15 games into the season we have 6 wins over the RPI top 50.....but some folks still need to see more from this team in order to feel better going forward.

maybe the problem isnt with this team....maybe the problem is certain people just dont get it.

Define a few? Give me a break. I get so sick of hearing youth as an excuse. We have 5 guys that that have played 55 career games, not including exhibition games in Bahamas and pre-regular season, and one who has been through two SEC slates in WCS.

If we lose it will be because we shoot terrible from the FT line, from 3, from the field and play bad D at times. We have sucked in a couple of those and not lost yet. It won't have anything to do with youth.

Im not sure about the O.P, because if this team does get whipped, that means something is terribly wrong. Im glad Cal said what he said, this isnt a very good team right now. For all of the talk about the greatest front line in the history of the world talk, they looked like crap yesterday. People are talking about our wins, but does this look even close to the same team? Right now Id say hell no

You have to remember a couple of things:

(a) Every team goes through a period where they're not playing well. Just hope it's not at the end of the season.
(b) The sign of a good team is to play bad and still win. That's what happened yesterday.
(c) This team will probably lose a couple but it will be close if/when it happens. I doubt if anyone blows them out.
(d) Don't watch PTI. Wilbon will only upset you more.

Smash, do you reckon they will win another game this year?

While I totally disagree with the OP's premise, USCjr worry's me a bit, not because we aren't the best team, but because we've only won there once since Cal became our coach, and I've been there for every loss, and I have tickets for this year. The only game I missed in Columbia was the one we won. Yikes!

I can sense a possible loss to Alabama next weekend, but I don't think we lose by double digits.

You sound rather optimistic OP. What are your thoughts on a triple digit loss??

Seriously, Lyles was excellent in the second overtime. He showed his real ability and grit when it mattered but it took that many burger boys to beat that team which is why KY is so dangerous.

Be worthy of the nation's greatest basketball program people. Expect to win every game, and when inevitable losses come along try to handle it without picking on players who have a bad game, or Cal or the refs.

Alright now you sons-of-b*****s, you know how I feel.

Oh, I will be proud

to lead you wonderful guys into battle anytime, anywhere.

That is all.

My neighbor senses a series of triple-digit losses coming. She said it's an emotional thing. She feels like Duke has been exposed as not being a top 25 team and we've been exposed as a not-top-ten team.

I think some people are imagining problems where they might not exist. We won a double overtime game, on the road, with three starters fouled out of the game. It may not have been pretty, but it counts as a win regardless. This team will continue to improve. That's bad news for the rest of the country. So, bring on the tough, hotly contested games. Whether they be at home or on the road. It only helps this team become more resilient.

chicken little!!!!!!

I think UK gets back on track at home v Mizzou and then if they beat Bama in Bama (which I believe we will) we could very well run the damn table.

Its called basketball. Stuff happens and the best team doesn't always win. We will lose a game more than likely. Like Cal says...these guys aren't machines. Losing is part of learning and if it happens they will learn from it. While there will be a fan melt down with a lose...it will not be the end of the world.

Pretty obvious thing to do and that's sell me your tickets and watch the game away from there. You seem to be the one common ingredient in our losses there.

The "panty waists" are the ones who can't deal with a couple of losses without freaking out. Does anyone out there truly feel like Duke's loss today means they have no chance of winning it all?

Exactly.

The same thing applies here. We may lose a few games in conference to inferior opponents. As long as we learn from the experience and grow as a team, it doesn't matter.

And NOW UK needs to have a "good" double digit loss...

OP, if we keep playing like we have the last two games I feel we have a loss on the horizon. No doubt about it. Will it be double figures, not sure but we have been playing with fire.
