I hate Louisville but at least their baseball coach is more tolerable than their other coaches. I will say that not hiring their pitching coach as our head coach could have been a big time mistake. I like Mingione so far, but I think their pitching coach is elite and we could have gotten an elite coach and taken one from them with one hire.

Have heard their head man is truly a good dude from a media guy - says Bobby and Ricky suck, but McDonnell is solid.
Also heard their pitching coach keeps everything structured and on the go - was the brains. From a biased source though...pitchers.

I don't know if Mitch considered their pitching coach or not, but if he didn't then he is about as dumb as a sack full of rocks. Their pitching has been phenomenal and they've done it in the toughest, or second toughest, conference in America. Like I said, I am happy with Mingione and think he can be a very solid coach, but their pitching coach seems to be elite, and has done outstanding things for Louisville, and every pitching staff he's been associated with.
UL has built a very good program and I agree that their head coach is not as detestable as nearly everyone else at that cesspool; however, they're #1 due mainly to a very soft schedule. They have only played one team with a winning record, so the early #1 ranking doesn't mean a whole lot.
I don't really care where they are right now. The bad part is that they are a title contender, and they have been for the last 4-5 years. They have hosted 4 regionals in a row while UK, IIRC, hasn't hosted a regional in over a decade, and has never made it out of a regional. We have got to start trending upward and get on or near their level. I like the way Mingione has us going in just his short time though.
That's OK, we beat em by 5 years. We were ranked # 1 in 2012 on 2 different occasions !
You're right, we did host in 2006 and have never been to a super. Yes, I think there's no doubt they are a title contender, though like many of their accomplishments, there is usually an asterisk (e.g. they wouldn't be anywhere near #1 if they had played anyone with a pulse).
Yep. Former UL pitcher and I think if he can put together some good staffs here he'll be hard to keep as our pitching coach because someone will want him as a rising head coach.
They likely will be. They don't play the top ACC teams until the last two series of the year.
