I don't want Towles to be sat down.

However I do think Barker should see some action. There are far too many good coaches and good teams that give their back-up QB's playing time to act as though it is some drastic measure to perform.

People tend to make the idea of Towles taking a series off as a make-or-break proposition for both QB's and that is just not necessary. Even if that were the case the question arises, Why is QB competition good in camp but bad during the season?

I don't like the thought of yanking a QB but giving the back-up a series to season his game is not a bad idea either and a lot of coaches do that, a lot of very successful coaches.

I hoped they were going to sit Towles a series or 2 when he was really struggling. Not as punishment. But sometimes it helps the QB to see things from teh sideline for a few snaps.

I just want the best chance to win football games. I am not convinced Towles is the guy. Send Barker out there some so everyone can see if he does better. It may actually improve Towles' play also. I don't care which one plays, just the best we have.

Often happens.

Glad they didn't pull him in the second half. You got to let your QB fight through the struggles some. And you can't have the backup rescue him in the first game of the season. We won. No need to create a controversy.

And that's not fair to Barker either. His first action needs to come in at a planned time or under no pressure or both if possible. He should have come in during the first quarter. One series would not have thrown rof the game plan.

Yep, give the guy time to get the jitters out. We saw how good he was when he was in the groove in the 1st half. He'll bounce back.

You have to stick with Towles with 3 SEC games coming up. They should all be close games, so need a veteran presence in there IMO. Throwing a frosh in there for any significant period of time against SEC D's will spell doom for any real chance at winning any of these games.

I've always subscribed to the theory that having a short leash on a QB does more damage to his confidence than it helps his play.
