and win the SEC tourney. Do we play ourselves back into a 1 seed considering the current parity and the fact nobody seems to want to be ranked number 1 for any period of time.

Thinking a two seed would be more likely if that were to happen but anything could happen this year.

The short answer is yes.

The long answer is yes because we would be 28-6 and winners of 12 straight.

I was going to start a similar thread but I wasn't going to talk about us getting a 1. It will take a win out to get a 2 seed IMO. A 1 seed is out of the question I believe.

Still depends on those ahead of us. Ultimately, our losses are all pretty bad except Kansas so we would really need the committee to weigh our recent play much more heavily. I think our ceiling now is a 2.

Also, we have no idea how they will view our team with us losing Poy. That alone may cost us a seed.

Really would depend on what everybody ahead of us does. If those teams take some bad loses it wouldn't be impossible.

You are dreaming. NCAAT seeds are awarded on the body of work during the whole season. We have lost 5 games to unranked teams. Winning the SECT would help Kentucky's case, but the possibility of a #1 or #2 has been dead for a long time.

Not sure I want this team to win out. Too young. You win 12 straight and you think you are unbeatable going into the NCAAS. If we were a veteran team it wouldn't bother me.

I agree, I think a 2 seed is our ceiling. Except that so many ranked teams keep losing games this year. It's possible every single contender for a 1/2 seed could have at least 5 losses. All we can do is keep winning. And we're starting to win impressively. They went into Columbia and pounded that team. I expect a noticeable jump in the polls next week.

A lot would have to happen in front of us to be in consideration of a 1 seed.

That said, in this batchit crazy season, anything seems plausible.

I doubt we can get to a one seed. When you have teams taking turns beating each other and barely dropping, I don't think we can make up enough ground in the next 4 weeks. There are three 5 loss teams in the top 10. Only 1 less loss than us but considerably higher in the rankings. They likely will put Kansas as a 1 along with Maryland and Villanova as of now. The last one is the only one we have a shot at I think (very small chance) and that will probably go to MSU with the way they refuse to drop them very far in the rankings. I think a 2 or 3 is more likely for us.

I think this team has been punched square in the mouth with reality enough this year.

Winning out would most definitely put us in the conversation. You are going to have a 1 seed or two with 5 or 6 losses this year; the quality of wins is more important than how bad the losses are. We'd probably end up as the two seed in the hardest bracket.

Yes I thought about this too. I believe we win out its automatic 1 seed or at very least 2. We should expect with the way we're playing (and fingers crossed we continue to improve which we're doing a lot of lately) no worse than a 3 seed

I agree smash, losing in the SEC tourney or a late season game wouldn't bother me.

This is how I see the 1 and 2 seeds playing out.

1 seeds
1. UNC/Maryland will battle down stretch of ACC regular and tourney. If one of those two wins both titles in ACC...that team will be a 1 seed.
2. Oklahoma/Kansas will battle down stretch of B12 regular and tourney. If one of those two wins both titles in B12...that team will be a 1 seed. I'd have to imagine KU will be that team given they've won twice head to head.
3. It makes me sick...but Nova is sitting strong for this spot and they are the typical overrated Nova that owns a decimated Big East and voters can't seem to figure that out.
4. The last 1 seed is a combo of Xavier/Big10 best team (Michigan St, Iowa) or 2nd best B12 (Oklahoma) or 2nd best ACC (Maryland/UNC).

2 seeds
1. 2nd best of Maryland/UNC
2. West Virginia
3. Virginia
4. Big 10 best team

UK has an outside chance if they can win out, to get a 2 seed from one of those teams above....but not overly likely. But as far as a 3 seed goes...UK can easily rocket right past a ton of teams to a solid 3 seed. Teams like Miami, Texas AM, South Carolina, Arizona, Iowa St, Providence, Purdue, Dayton, Baylor, etc...UK better pass these guys in a heart beat for a 3 seed if we win out (or even lose 1 more game)....I think UK is sitting pretty for a 3 seed. And a 3 seed isn't a loss worse than 2 seed. I just don't want to see UK screw up some games and only get 4 seed which makes you play a tough 5 seed in 2nd round and 1 seed in 3rd round. Uk is in good shape all things given this season.

Just a heads up, Maryland isn't in the ACC anymore. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: So that may affect your seeds a little.

If that's the case then why do we always hear on selection Sunday about how they look at the last 10 games on top of the body of work. They really look at how you finish more than early season games. The fact we are winning convincingly without a guy like poythress should weigh pretty heavily in our favor. All of this is contingent upon us continuing to play at this level.

Win out and they "could" be a No. 2 (but if they were a 3, it would almost be the same thing). None of the Top 8 seeds rights now can lock them up, as multiple Top 10 teams lose every week.

I think a 2 seed is our ceiling
We have no shot at a #2. I wish it were different. I wish we had not lost 5 games to unranked teams. But we did. I wish we were not ranked #22 in the polls, but we are. The ceiling is probably a #3, but that's a very tough climb from here. We would have to leap over about 10 other teams to get up to a #3.

I think if we win our remaining games and the SECT, a 1 is a distinct possibility. As it stands, I feel confident we're gonna be a 2 or 3. Go Cats!!

This team won't lose many more and I'm nearly positive we win the SECT. it's our birthright. Ulis on a neutral floor (which is a home game for UK) will be deadly.

Having said that who do you think we are? Kansas? Of course 28-6 would be a 4 seed for UK.

If we win out including SEC Tournament, we will DEFINITELY be a 2 seed. Heck, by the time the end of the season rolls around, 6 losses may be the lowest number.
