Huge day of upsets in college basketball...shocking right?

I count 7 of top 18 losing already and #25.
#14 Iowa St is playing #24 Texas now and #21 Baylor is losing to Tubby Tech.

We could see damn near half of the top 25 go down today!

I see UK at 15 or 16 Monday.

Thoughts?
Still won't make the Gary Parrish blog poll.:)

anyone watch the end of the baylor/texas tech game? the officials made two bad calls against baylor that helped end a pretty much decided game in favor of the raiders. but then baylor and drew pouted until the end of the game and fouled down 20 all the way until there were 5 seconds left. what kind of bush league stuff is that from them?

Bears go down to the Red Raiders and it wouldn't surprise me to see #16 SMU lose at home to Gonzaga. As they've been saying most of the day about A&M, it's different being the hunt-ed instead of the hunt-er.

Didnt see it Hotel but Im glad Baylor lost. Sounds like sour grapes for sure.
UK could and should make a big move in the polls Monday....15 ish.....need Iowa St to choke to Texas.

My thoughts are that the road to the Final Four is wide-open, regardless of Kentucky's potential draw in the tournament.

With an elite backcourt capable of dominating any opposing matchup, one has to like Kentucky's chances and how they're trending right now.

14-15 seems about right, but I'm not sure that we will jump that high. It will be interesting, because #4 Iowa has 5 loses, #14 Iowa State has 7 (possibly 8) losses to our 6 come Monday. We should be ahead of Iowa State, but that is a Lot of movement in the poles.

I'm hoping to see a drastic move up the polls - given all the crazy losses and how we've won. AND we've won those games without Alex
But then again, who knows how they'll vote. I believe we should be around 15

Agreed. That said, I don't think UK's rank will matter as much as how they might be trending in the eyes of the selection committee. Right now, it looks like a strong 4/5. Another good stretch of games, and UK could find themselves in the 3 seed range.

Considering how the climate on this board was after the Tennessee loss, it's been an amazing turn of events after a mere three games.

true enough - amazing how we go from NIT one week to we're gonna make a deep run the next [winking]

Kenpom has us at 9
RealTimeRPI has us at 16
BPI has us at 19

Would be looking at a likely 4 seed at this point.

Of note: SMU is #13 in the RPI, and they're ineligible.
Duke is #18
UL is #28

I think it helps us if they win going forward. As sad as that is to say.

EDIT: Looks like only Kenpom has updated for today. Might move up in both.

AP Top 25 this week:

#2 (Maryland) Won, Lost vs unranked
#3 (Oklahoma) Won, Lost vs #6
#4 (Iowa) Lost vs unranked, Plays tomorrow
#5 (Xavier) Lost vs unranked, Won
#6 (Kansas) Won vs #10, Won vs. #3
#7 (Virginia) Won, Lost vs unranked
#8 (Michigan State) Lost vs #18, Plays tomorrow
#9 (North Carolina) Won, Plays tomorrow
#10 (West Virginia) Lost vs #6, Won
#11 (Oregon) Lost vs unranked, Lost vs unranked
#12 (Miami FL) Won, Plays tomorrow
#13 (Louisville) Lost vs unranked, Lost vs unranked
#14 (Iowa State) Lost vs unranked, Won vs #24
#15 (Texas A&M) Lost vs unranked, Lost vs unranked
#16 (SMU) Lost vs unranked, playing Gonzaga as I write this
#17 (Arizona) Won, Plays #23 tomorrow
#18 (Purdue) Won vs #8, Lost vs unranked
#19 (Dayton) Won, Won
#20 (Providence) Lost vs unranked, Won
#21 (Baylor) Won, Lost vs unranked
#22 (Kentucky) Won, Won
#23 (USC) Lost vs unranked, Play #17 tomorrow
#24 (Texas) Lost vs #3, Lost vs #14
#25 (Wichita St) Won, Lost vs unranked

This is truly an amazing sight.
As of this moment there are only 4 teams that have won both of their games this week. That's only one more than the 3 teams that have lost both of their games to UNRANKED opponents!

Those numbers will likely change by the time this week ends. There are 7 games that are either in progress at the time of writing this or are scheduled to play tomorrow.

18 of the top 25 teams have lost at least once this week. Of the 7 teams that haven't lost 3 play tomorrow and can add a loss to this total. So theoretically by the end of the week we could have 21 out of 25 teams this week record at least one loss.

4 teams have already dropped both of their games this week and 4 other teams that have already lost are still playing or play tomorrow. So theoretically 8 of the top 25 teams could lose both of their games this week, 4 already have.

22 Total losses so far this week for the top 25. Since USC & Arizona play each other tomorrow there are only 6 more possible losses. Theoretically we could have 28 losses this week for the top 25 teams!

Between #10 & #21: 3 teams have lost both of their games this week to unranked opponents. 4 more have lost one of their games to unranked opponents. One lost to #6 ranked opponent and three other games still need to be resolved. So at minimum there have been 8 teams above us that have lost at least one game this week. That can grow to at least 10 teams between 10th and 21st spots that can lose this week.

Breaking down the top 25 this way has really demonstrated (to me at least) that CBB this year is freaking crazy! I cannot believe the number of losses that have occurred just this week alone, it is unreal.

Looking at Sith's mighty fine chart I see no way UK doesnt climb to #15 or #16.

Would be one of UKs bigger jumps in the polls in recent memory.

My guess is #14 - 17, based on the following:

We should jump:

Baylor - 7 losses (lost 3 out of last 4)

Providence - 7 losses (lost 2 out of last 4)

TAMU - 7 losses (lost 4 in a row)

Louisville - 6 losses (lost 2 in a row)

Oregon - 6 losses (lost 2 in a row)

We might jump:

Iowa State - 7 losses (lost 3 out of last 5)

Purdue - 6 losses, beat MSU but lost to Michigan this week (lost 2 out of last 4)

SMU - only 3 losses but 3 in their last 4, all non-ranked losses - Temple, Houston, Tulsa

I hope not, that's bad news bears for everybody.

Sorry! Just had to! :p

I was really worried that our tourney matchup would have to be prefect but that is easing up. I still think we have major problems within our league with LSU. They smoked us and are a bad matchup. I think that zone we saw yesterday could help somewhat but I did not like what I saw and Jones - despite his rep- has had success against us.

Beating a ranked team on the road like they were a high school team should bump us up pretty good. With aaaaaaaaaall the losses this week I'd say 15-17 wouldn't be unprecedented.

Too true, especially if one follows the hyperbolic ebbs and flows of this message board, right? Two weeks ago, Cal couldn't teach offense and now the UK team is "one of Cal's best offensive teams ever".

I love this message board, but if one is inclined to be easily influenced by the commentary of the week, they'd likely feel like UK is Final Four-bound on Monday, only to think UK is a bubble team by Tuesday morning.

I'm guess UK will be # 15 come Monday.... Would be higher, if they could justify themselves... The coaches poll may place them higher.... If I were an honest coach, I would....

Everything is coming together. I'd say there's a good chance of Alex coming back. If that happens, it's only going to unite UK and bolster the team emotionally.

Like many have noted, UK is one of those 3 to 5 seeds that no team in the country will want to face. They have explosive playmaking guards and their bigs are beginning to find a foundation for adequate defensive/rebounding production.

This thing could get very interesting if the UK bigs can stay out of foul trouble for a few games in March.

Should be back around the top 10 but I doubt the voters move us up that far

And I'm cool with that. I don't want this UK team venturing too far up in the polls just yet. Like the '14 team, they seem to do well as the "rejected former contender" who battles it out with a chip on his shoulder, rather than the pundits fighter of choice.

I believe these guys are going to have a chance by scrapping together a few desperate tournament wins, not by looking at their accolades and deciding they've got a good road to the Final Four. We even see the evolution of Murray's demeanor changing on the defensive end, which is huge. He's battling right now, and taking on some of Ulis' will to defend.

Anything that'll help move us back up in the pennant race, sorry standings, *ahem* rankings is a-okay in my book! :)

The Coach's and AP Polls will be out tomorrow. We can revisit then.
What you fail to see is that it never matters what any "expert" says. Their infatuation with Big 12 basketball only ends up making your conference look godawful in March.

Enjoy another meaningless conference title.
