That UK was a gift wrapped dropped INT at UofL and a terrible call at UK away from being 7-5 last year. If that had happened? People would be saying we could in the East. I'm not saying we will win the East but I can see UK winning 8 games this year. Think about it, out of the 12 games we probably only have 2 that we don't have a punches chance in (Auburn & UGA). Out of our 4 road games, Vanda, UGA, USCjr and Miss St. I would argue 1 is a win and 2 are very winnable. 7 of our 8 home games are all winnable as well. I love how our schedule shapes up I feel it stays away from long losing streaks. I think UK goes 7-5 this year but 8-5 would not at all shock me.

That terrible call was at Fla.(only road game I missed)...but I will forgo the terrible call and give me the pick 6 int. that hit the db in the chest and bounced into the receivers hands for a td or the RT drop with 40 secs. left that could have set us up for a winning fg in regulation. But I do agree about three players making plays last yr kept MS from being COY in sec...

We were closer than our record indicates and overall there were some growing pains that'll benefit us this year

I don't see Kentucky winning 8 games, I thinking 6 maybe 7 Games.

Our range of wins is between 6-8 IMO..especially when you factor in the bowl game..6 is the basement and I'd say 8 or 9 is the ceiling..I'd say the most likely scenario is 7 wins if you want to be as realistic as possible..6 would be slightly underachieving and 8 would be slightly over-achieving (for the regular season that is) ..but once you factor in the bowl game if we finish with a 7-5 campaign I think 8 wins becomes almost probable ..if we make it to a lower level bowl I can almost tack on another win because we saw what happened last year with the SEC east playing teams that were worse than them..it dominated against teams like Miami, Iowa, East Carolina, etc..I'd like our odds against any of those type of teams

We had 1 win out of 5 that could have easily been a loss in South Car. Scoreboard for Vanda game showed a close ball game but UK was in control after the Towles pick 6.

On the other side, UK had maybe 5-6 plays that could have easily sealed the victory in the second half against Florida and the Cats came away with a shoulda coulda woulda loss. Then you had the Mississippi State game that UK never quite had control, but was in it with a legit shot til the onside kick got returned for a TD. Then you had Missouri, who much like our game against Vandy, the score was close but never had the feel that UK would do anything. Then of course the UL game where we were a just a play away from the upset (or a healthy Bonnaroo away).

So, We were 5-7 last year, with 1.5 of those wins that could have potentially swung the other way....and 3.5 of the losses that could have realistically been wins.

We were minor plays away from being and 8 to 9 win team last year. On the flipside, we were also a few minor plays away from being a 3-4 win team as well. BUT, we're trending upward definitely, and barring a meltdown game (such as Mississippi state in 07) UK is legitimately in contention for a 10 win season.

On a down trend:
Florida
Louisville
SCAR
MSU
Auburn (although very slight)

-Georgia is flatlined (like that have been for the past 10 years)

-Tennessee, I hate to say it, is on a major upswing

BUT, I believe UK's saving grace this season is that we will have the great equalizer in almost every game we play. And that is a Good Quarterback. Dobbs is tough(equal to Towles IMO) and Prescott is a monster (but not a prolific passer), throw is Auburns Johnson as a good QB too. The rest of our opponents we *Should* have the upper hand at the most important position on the field.

Several valid plays where we coulda/shoulda won the game, the worst the missed interception which literally was a perfect pass-----to be intercepted. Then it also should have resulted in a TD for us. Then it set up the Florida TD a short time later. easily a 14 point swing in a game that went to OT. SEVERAL other plays that could have won the game for us, including a few mundane first downs they eked out or we didn't eke out.

But everyone needs to get over the "terrible" call, which there was zero chance of going our way if the official followed the mechanics he should have------which he apparently did.

The official is supposed to watch the clock until it hits zero, then switch to the ball. Several slo-mo and stop action replays show that the ball was centered at the worst a tenth or so second late, IF it was even centered late at all------much too close for the official to call a delay of game on the play, IMO.

Good teams overcome adversity, I think we will do much better this year.

Seldom mentioned is Kentucky's 20-10 loss to Missouri in Columbia last November 1. Our offense was unproductive that day because Missouri's defensive ends kept beating our tackles on the edge, and because Kentucky's receivers were not as physical as Missouri's secondary. Missouri's offense also struggled that day. We will play Missouri again in Lexington on September 26. Our fans have a lot of respect for Missouri, and few expect us to win this year's game. But the more I look at our schedule, the more I look at September 26 as a defining upset opportunity for our season. Missouri lost a lot of good players after last year. This is a home game, and we should be at full strength. Towles is a more experienced quarterback, and our receivers look much better this time around. If we are an improved team like our coaches say we are, then we will win this game and set the tone for a bowl season.
