A lot. Especially if we semi-stop the run early on. Stoopsy is going to play off and give them 5-7 yard dump-offs every play, basically their running game. By mid-third quarter those little dump-offs will go for nice chunk plays as our guys wear down and will miss open-field tackles. MSU will beat us because Leach has balls and they really don’t punt so we’ll have to continually stop them for four downs. We’ll have a tough enough job forcing third downs as it is.

As many as they want. I hate this game. I hate Mike Leach.

This is a big opportunity for us.

The problem is they have a defense, which we found out last year.

We have to get shit right.

Stop, no. Slow down, maybe.

This is the correct answer. Stoops has always ran a "bend, no break" defense. Obviously, he (like anyone) would desire to stop an offense 100%, but that's not realistic. Instead, he will err on the side of preventing big plays and touchdowns.....and the expense of allowing potentially more yards.

A lot of other defenses create decent pressure with only three or four and unique packages, something we can’t do. Who cares about a big play or two, Stoops’ bend and don’t break is extra demoralizing when they convert third down after third down after third down. Creating a turnover or two positively offsets a couple big plays especially with a home crowd. It’s gonna be super annoying Saturday.

People drive me crazy wanting to blitz. That's exactly what leach wants. His offense and qbs eat the blitz alive. Same for man coverage.

The way to beat leach has always been a zone but come up hard and make the tackle. That's how we picked off 5 passes two years ago. Last year their offense did nothing special, we just had some weak secondary tacklers and the offense killed us.

Their defense vs our offense is the matchup I'm most worried about by far. Hopefully someone offers their DC a better job this off-season because he's the key to everything

They throw a ton of short stuff to set up the big stuff. Kind of stuff that usually eats us up the way we play prevent defense on the long stuff. Kind of system and QB that picks us apart while we play on our heels.

Teams that have had success against MSU have put pressure on the QB.
But that just isn't the defensive philosophy for this team. Could be a long day

The way we should do it. Getting the QB scrambling some and not just being able to set his feet all day is what I like. Make him uncomfortable. Will probably be like TN last year and you see what they did to Kentucky's 'philosophy.'

Mike Leach is why College Football is the best!!!

He says what other coaches won’t. He’s a personality. He’s coached at some down trodden places and WON.

Mike Leach is great!

He reminds me of WV's basketball coach. Looks like he could care less about anything or anybody. A loner and a rebel, but a pretty good guy when you hear him.

Just curious but do you ever say anything positive other than you're positive Stoops sucks and you're positive we'll lose?

You know you’re talking to the Stupid Underdog Picks Contest leader?

I don’t jinx the Cats. UK is going 0-12 and 0-32 every year.

Stoops doesn’t suck. A solid coach and very appreciative of getting us back above ground. He’s just more suited for Iowa or another (anyone not named OSU) Little Ten program.

The last time we faced them at home, we had something like six Interceptions against them. I'm hoping for something along those lines to happen again. they're going to get their numbers, we just have to keep them out of the end zone and keep their damage between the twenties.

In all seriousness leach will keep miss st a team that doesn’t suck and always finish with 6 or 7 wins. They’ll never win anything in that division but be just good enough to beat our ass every other year no matter the year UK is having.
Leach has a system that’s hard to coach for on one week of coaching

Yes they only scored 2 points in that game. But I am afraid this Miss St. team is much better than 2 years ago. Better running game and better defense. Ky needs thier a game to pull this one out.

I'm a pressure guy but in this case I think the key to slowing them down is not to control the rush at least from your front four and play lanes more and GET YOUR HANDS UP.

The rely on the short, get it our quick passes to set everything else up. That means quick drops and ball coming out quickly. The odds are your arnent going to get there with your front four anyway because you havent got time, so instead of stunting and having guys in all out rush mode leaving rushing lanes, I think you cause more trouble for them by keeping the big guys in their lane to protect against draw plays and also by getting their hands up to disrupt passing lanes.

To me the most underrated tactic on defense is getting hands up on passing plays. It can feel helpless watching a good QB pick you apart when you cant ge there to disrupt them (see Miss St last year and Missouri the year before), but the andectode to that is getting the big guys to get their hands up especially for shorter QBs like theirs. And we got some big boys up front.

Leach offenses n QBs are all about rhythm.

One week it’ll be a 5-6 score clinic…the next it could be a defensive secondary clinic with that many take aways.

Really on the D to get some early stops and throw the QB off…pop him a couple times early

We have always been a bend but do not break defense under Stoops and Saturday will not change that.
Yardage is irrelevant- can we keep them out of the end zone?

Will Jones be back? How healthy are we on defense?

Our secondary is a strength. I mean with the crappy defensive line play and still not gettn sacks and you still really haven't been giving up a lot of big plays.......
Go ahead...try throwing it on us. Valentine and the one from Mississippi I'm comfortable with them.

Usually good secondary helps the defensive line get to the quarterback and good defensive line helps get interceptions for the secondary.

We are on our home field. We got Levis back. And one time we shut Rogers down at home and one time we got lit up at their place.

It's at our place. He will get intercepted. Kentucky will beat Mississippi State 28-20.

If Stoops sinks the Pirate will some of you stop swinging from Leach’s balls?
Easy there. You’re talking about the great Mike Leach. Over 20 year head coaching veteran who has now been a head coach in 3 of the top 7 conferences in the country. Do you not realize he almost won a division once?… a decade & a half ago in the mighty big 12. Show some respect, man!!!

Costello got shut down in 2020. Rogers is 1-0 against us (technically as a starter). But all in all I hope you are correct! Although Rogers did throw 15 of their 70 (lol) pass attempts.

They'll get their 300 thru the air because that's what they do. My concern is their D which gave a much better '21 UK O fits. Happens again and it'll be a very long night.

As many as Rogers has before he is viciously blindsided on a blitz by Wright and after coughing up the football, that is recovered and returned for a TD by UK, is forced out of the game.
