How is it that we don't have a legit QB?

I don't wanna be negative after a win, but how is it that we finally have depth and all the pieces, yet still no legit SEC calibre QB? I just don't understand how that happens? How can the coaches and recruiters continue to let that happen? We haven't had a real SEC QB since at least Woodson, and frankly, he overachieved while he was here. Why can't UK ever find a QB??? There is enough talent here that guys should want to come be a part of leading it to new heights. Instead, we just look inept and unable to get the ball to playmakers.

...ind honestly, from the little I had seen going in, i was pulling for Terry to win the QB battle, just because I liked the added dimension of the ability to run, but I saw nothing from him yesterday that made me think SEC QB. Gunnar, on the other hand, while leaving something to be desired, at least looked to be much more of a poised, game manager than Wilson. I was actually quite surprised when they went back to Wilson. Why can't we ever get this right? Why is finding a legit guy so elusive? There are always a handful of NFL calibre QB's that play for mid majors...Why the hell can't an SEC program like UK find guys that are at least serviceable??? ok, rant over. just very frustrated. It doesnt make sense.

It's just not as simple as you seem to believe. One example would be LSU's struggles with this same issue and they have every built in recruiting advantage over us currently and historically.. Over the last 40 years how many QBs have we actually had that were even slightly above average that were not in state talent?

Mac Jones and Jarren Williams, struck out on both. Big time quarterbacks are hard to recruit. Anybody else notice the starting lineup of Alabama had 2 Kentucky kids, Harris and Willis.

I saw 2 young guys playing their first college football game. This isn't basketball where you rent a guy for 6 months then move on to the next. They've played one freaking game, football's a process.

Barker would've been the rock everyone is wanting or saying that UK has lacked had he not gotten injured. Dude got rocked and had a nagging back injury flare up that kept him playing at a lower level. Or has nobody watched the first half of that S.Miss game? Dude was on fire and we were clicking on all cylinders.

So let's look at things historically now.

1. Stoops came in and brought Neal Brown.
- Great offensive mind but questionable QB coach as he'd never played the position. Also had Joker holdovers to work with. Serviceable but not great.

2. Shannon Dawson next.
- Not a QB coach.

3. Gran and Hinshaw, great offensive mind and a QB coach mix.
- Johnson, Barker, and possibly Wilson, Hoak, or Clark (who by all accounts is extremely talented but raw as Ramsay's chicken and has made strides while at UK).

Our last really good QBs, Woodson and Hartline had Randy Sanders, the future QB coach for Florida State. Our most recent rock of a QB, Johnson (and Barker before he suffered a SPINAL INJURY which some people don't seem to understand is huge for a QB) had Hinshaw to coach him up. That ain't half bad and I hope that Stoops remembers QB performance if Hinshaw leaves. Give Gran the reigns to pull in another QB coach. We need one. That much is clear.

Next.

People are crucifying Wilson after one game, after coming in and learning a system for one year, and after moving between two other programs before. This is literally his third stop since high school and his first time really tasting the speed and skill of D1 football, MAC level or not.

The offense moves through the QB and is limited by their performance. Jitters and coming up to speed will take time to surmount. Do not have high expectations for this Florida game or any game until we get Terry settled in and comfortable.

I fully believe he is our guy barring injury. His mistakes were largely correctable and we'll be nigh unstoppable on offense when Terry's hitting on all cylinders. He knows the offense but he's been on campus a year and had yet to put the concepts into motion in a game setting prior to yesterday. We will get it done or move on to Hoak... but I don't foresee that happening.

Just cool your jets and relax. I honestly think we're in good hands.

Hell, I might make this into a part of another post on the main board. Some people need to see it.
