I always thought it was number of teams in the league plus 2 split evenly. The extra 2 go to the school and 1 share to the league. Is that correct? Was it once correct and isn't anymore?

I think so.

Each amount split into 16 shares. Participating team gets two of the 16; league gets one, and remaining 13 go to the 13 other schools.

I did too but I thought @bthaunert said otherwise one time and I think his thoughts are probably better than mine.
I guess it boils down to whatever Bama wants!

The way the formula worked, it was not a true equal division, as the Bamas and UGA’s are getting 2/16’s of many millions, and those going to lesser bowls 2/16’s of maybe a million or two.

And Auburn and Vandy will not get a 2/16’s share of anything.

I ask the same question every single year. It gets explained to me, I understand, promise to myself I’ll never forget…but I will forget again by this time in 2023, that’s for sure.

I have it permanently inscribed on my left thigh, for posterities’ sake.
