Go back and watch replays of Offense from first game. Smoke & Wright are horrible at picking the right hole. They are constantly running up the guards backs, heads down, no creativity or instinct for sliding down the line to the open spot. CRod reads openings sheds tackles like a dog with the mange sheds hair and punishes tacklers.

That is partially true. Its also true that our OL is struggling.

We all agree Crod is a superior RB in many ways....but come on with the lack of Oline blame...that unit is getting guys unblocked hitting the RB 3 to 4 yards in backfield all the time in every game thus far. This is some shitty Oline play no matter whomelse could play better.

This is coaching at this point. I'm very concerned about our OL coach. I bet Stoops is furious.

CROD coming in fresh vs Ole Miss is going to be a fascinating story for all CFB for week 5. This game despite the treatment from ESPN will be one of the most talked about and analyzed over the coming week.
Agreed. There’s going to be a lot of hot takes. And honestly I think hit takes are as good a guess as any—it’s hard to predict what’s going to happen.

I could see C-Rod rushing for 150 yards and two touchdowns even with an inexperienced O-line… I can also see him struggle all night due to the offensive line underperforming and finish with underwhelming numbers. I truly have no idea what to expect.

There's clearly communication issues since defenders are constantly coming through unblocked. This is Cox's first year at center and it's up to him to organize the line presnap then Levis' job to communicate the other assignments for blitzers, etc. Whatever's happening there now is a disaster. It's up to Yenser and Scangarello to fix it. Hopefully they can.

I'm more concerned with the lack of physicality in the run game and the inability to open up running holes. Derrick Henry wouldn't be rushing for many yards behind this line right now.

Our offensive line is clearly not where we need them to be -- which is to be expected after replacing three NFL linemen. Right now our offense is largely one dimensional. Smoke and Co. are putting up ok stats but are clearly not a real rushing threat.

When C Rod returns, his running (and blocking) ability should allow us to be more well-rounded. Those runs that have been going for 3 yards will suddenly go for 6, which will be a huge difference. Also, he's a warhorse who exhausts defenses. Smoke has proven to be a mediocre player here. At his best, he can come in against a tired, bruised defense and gash some big runs. He's basically an upper-middle class AJ Rose.

Without a run game, we can't control the clock like we are used to (which could have bitten us against Florida). That puts too much pressure on Levis to try to create big plays with his arm, leading to too many sacks and interceptions. With our defense, the ability to go on those time killing Bataan Death Drives that suck up clock after we get a lead will be absolutely devastating. I worry that the defense has been on the field too much thus far. We've got much better depth than we did in years past, but our regulars are so outstanding that I don't want to see us lose anyone because they have to take too many snaps.

I don't think C Rod's return is a magic elixir to fix the o-line but I do think he's such a good rusher that he will instantly make the offense better by taking pressure off the line and Levis to have to make everything happen through the air. Or, to quote Mark Stoops, "See everyone appreciates the run game now. Five years ago they didn't appreciate shit."

I like stoops and he is probably saying this to keep their confidence up, but can’t see any way this is true

There are several players who should be better at this point but seemingly are not going to get it it for some reason

yeah. I’m looking at a guy who wears the same number of the year I graduated

This.^^^^^.

Our O line is the softest I have seen in the Stoops era.

Someone needs to get in that room and stir up some meanness and some toughness with that group.

I was concerned about their touchy feely soft talk. They are playing that way. If Yenser can't get it done, send Grans butt in there.

Our ground yards will certainly improve with Chris Rodriguez back.
My concern is more about keeping our QB upright and healthy. Hell, we can't keep him upright against MAC teams! Now the bulk of our SEC season starts. It's deeply concerning.

Crod gives uk a running threat. No one respects our other running backs. It should make the offense more dangerous in the passing game as you have to pick your poison. The oline will have to be more consistent regardless though.

CRod is also a great blocker. He will give Levis more time.

OL has been a mess but it isn't all on them.

Backs have missed holes and they have not run with power. Rodriguez will turn a lot of those no gains and one yard gains into three yard gains. That makes a big difference over the course of a game and in play selection.

Teams have also been walking safeties into the box so UK has often been running against numbers as they have tried to work on the running game.

NIU blitzed a lot and Smoke and Wright are not good blocking backs...significantly Rodriguez is. That will help the passing game.

If Rodriguez isn't rusty, he will make a big difference.

One other thing. I believe the offense has been sitting on a wrinkle for CRod's return. Expect to see the jet sweep stress the linebackers wide...then watch the jet sweep fake and CRod running inside.
