Per ESPN. Gotta feel like this could hurt Iowa State next season.

Wonder if they have any good recruits coming in that might me worth a look if they ask for a release?

Hoiberg needs to take it easy. He has already had two major heart procedures and he is barely 40. :scream:

When this was first rumored, I looked at their message board and there was a thread called "Does Hoiberg know what this will do to ISU basketball?"

I had to laugh.

Looked at their class and they have a 4 star pg, a Juco forward and a 7-1 Greek national player.

...But the Mayor loves Ames and he's a different kind of guy. You don't understand. His wife likes the courthouse. He'll be there for life.

That heart issue is huge IMO; why would you bring in a guy with serious health issues and throw him into the NBA schedule? Hoiberg better get major help from his staff.

I seriously don't see this guy making it more than 2 years. That job is the grind of all grinds, well of course other than being a top NCAA referee.

Although he will play more games, he won't have to recruit anymore, which is a huge weight off of the shoulders.

I think he'll be great and he's the guy I wanted after/if Cal left.

What is the Bulls infatuation with Iowa St. coaches? Not like Tim Floyd worked out back in 98.

Well Hoiberg did play for the bulls in 98, up to 2003 or so, so I imagine that has a little to do with it.

Yes, all 2 times. Frankly, I'm surprised they hired someone that coached at the same school as the completely different person they hired 17 years ago. Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me ... you can't get fooled again!

Hoiberg played for the Bulls, runs an NBA-friendly offense, has front office experience, and is tight with Gar Forman (Bull's GM). In the modern NBA, the relationship between front office and the coaching staff is very important. He's well respected as a coach despite the early NCAA Tournament exits. In fact, the whole Big 12 is well respected despite early exits. Weird. As a Bulls fan I am cautiously optimistic. I think he's an excellent hire, but I fear the roster is in need of a slight teardown/rebuild. If Noah can come back healthy - he was 4th in MVP voting in 2013-14 - it's a different story, but I fear the worst.

Donovan losing record this year, gets the Thunder job. Hoiberg loses in the first round to GSU and gets the Bulls job, we live in a great country

Indeed, we live in a country that judges coaches not merely by the most recent W/L record or tournament loss. A country where Ted Williams is regarded as superior to Bernie Williams even though the Yankee Williams like totally crushed the Splinter in W/L record and ringz.

A report came out last week that he was telling recruits he wasn't sure what his future would hold. Basically at that moment you knew he was gone.

LeBron and the Cavs are just going to get better. Love will be back next year, if not that will open cap space to add 1 or 2 players. Thompson looks like he could lead the league in rebounding and will only get better. Anderson V will be back next year to start or backup the Center position. Kyrie will improve, stumpert will improve, and JR loves playing on a winner so he will be productive.

As for the Bulls I think their time is up. I think a healthy John Wall and the Wizards are the 2nd best team in the east

I think what's more interesting is who will coach Iowa St. If I was them, I'd bring in Thibs on a one year deal!

All things considered, I wonder which job is more stressful. I mean the NBA will fire someone at the drop of a hat, but more games means less importance of each game, no recruiting, no NCAA or College to deal with. Could an NBA job actually be less stressful than a college job?

Yea I'm thinking the chances of him leaving are greater than staying.

Love has something like a 16 million option to return to the Cavs for a year. I think he takes that players option and wait until the season after to test the market. The seaon afterward I believe it's going to be an increase in the cap. So money wise I think it makes sense to take the player option, and sign the long term deal when the cap increase.
