Got up this morning and saw I missed the latest Matt Jones periscope sessions. Two in a row. Can anyone give me the high points?

Was going to ask this as well. All I caught is Jones saying Giles is 60/40 Duke/UK - says UK is gaining ground everyday.

He said something about Fox but I missed it.

Said Fox is pretty much in the bag and thinks Monk is UK bound as well. Said Giles was probably at 0% before his visit to BBM, but that he had an excellent visit and was absolutely blown away. MJ said he even fell in love with the campus. Thinks it is closer to 60/40, but that he'd still predict Duke at this time.

He said everyone at Congressional bootcamp has asked, "Surely they'll fire that coach at Louisville, right?"

He also said the staff was expecting to hear something about Skal either today, tomorrow, or early next week. He said if not by then, and closer to Halloween, he will begin to worry, but as of right now, he isn't concerned with it.

Also thanked the fans. Said he is truly grateful for the outpouring of support that he gets, because without the fans he wouldn't be living his dream. Then he got emotional and cut off the periscope. MJ is a good dude. I had mixed feelings on him before, but he's good in my book.

Oh, and they had Katina Powell lined up to be on the show today, but MJ is doing his Washington thing, so they're trying to get her lined up for next week. Should be a good show.

He tried to give McGee legal advice ... apparently McGee is using the same law firm that UL uses, so he basically told him, if he was listening, to go get his own lawyer because the other one is going to give him bad advice.

He also dropped a little nugget that I found hilarious. Karen Sypher apparently reached out to him for representation when she got in trouble for the Pitino debacle. He said he turned her down because he didn't want to add more animosity to the UK/UL dynamic.

That would have been awesome!!!!

So, today Giles would be 59/41, or maybe even 58/42? Yesssss!

So is Matt Jones running for congress like people were talking about?

I was wondering the other day why he was in Washington, I thought maybe that was why

says he still doesn't know if he wants to and is adamant that he hasn't made up his mind. The biggest factor would be not being able to go to UK games like he does and missing the radio job, interacting in the same way with fans. Biggest pro is, well, being a congressman. He said 1 of 3 things could happen that would make him definitely not do it: 1. KSR goes on the SEC Network, one of the business deals he's working on goes through that would require him to stay at KSR for a few more years, and he wouldn't say what the 3rd one was. It's a super duper secret.

Dude is gonna run for Congress. I'd say it's 70/30 that he runs.
I'd say it's closer to 60/40 :)

I think he will too. He has to though, this is a chance of a lifetime, and he has to do it while he has the popularity to have a shot.

Radio show will take a huge hit though. Ryan cannot carry that show to save his life.

My highlight and I hope I'm not giving too much away. Ryan didn't know Bob Barr was a republican and not a democrat.

I wouldn't even know who TF Bob Barr was if it wasn't for Matt talking about him.
Imagine this with white hair

I know he thinks he could make a difference, but he's deluded. I do believe a lot of people get into politics with the right motive, but once they get entrenched in the political machinery, they either succumb to the process and become what they hate, or they get out. I think even if he got elected, he would only serve one term. He ought to know by now how this works, and also he has too many personal quirks that make him unsuited for the job.

I'm thinking more 69/31.

Most all of them get into it to make a difference and then they get a chance for all the money that is involved and they turn into exactly what they hate. I'm sure Matt is making plenty enough money from UK fans. Why take a chance of messing up such a good thing? More money? Most say a chance of a life time, but I would look at it as a huge mistake. Do most think the guy has a real chance to win with his successful Kentucky sports talk show? Would that be enough? I don't know

Smith said something about Duke being smart that they were the last visit. I kind of interpret that to mean that UK made a huge impression and it might be actually be 51/49 UK right now, but Duke was positioned well to make that last best impression and seal the deal.

Finishing second is worthless in basketball recruiting unfortunately.

Matt Jones is quoted by saying that Coach Cal was all but gone to Cleveland up until the twins (and WCS) decided to come back for another year. I'd say the narrative holds true for Matt Jones. I'd say Matt was all but ready to pull the trigger for politics up until this Louisville scandal broke.
