As has been talked about, Bamba is rooming with Quade Green at the JBC and mentioned in an interview that Green, Trent/Carter, and Coleman have all been giving their best sales pitch to get him to join them at UK, Puke, and Texas. What I found interesting was that during the interview he mentions that Magic Johnson is his all-time favorite player due to the fact that he is the poster child for a "Positionless" player. We all know that Cal has several buzz words he uses on a constant basis and he really started pushing the idea of "Positionless" players during the recruitment of last year's class. In fact, I remember hearing Bam, Fox and Monk use that term in several of their interviews prior to committing to UK. If history repeats itself his "Positionless" comment might be a hidden message letting the BBN know that he'll be joining the family soon.
While Bamba loves the idea of being a "positionless" player, what position(s) do you think Bamba will play at UK and why? I personally feel he'll start at the 4 with Richards at the 5, which is crazy to say in that it means that an extremely talented player such as Washington would be coming off the bench. Without going into too much detail I think Bamba's skill set makes him better suited to play the 4 instead of the 5 and that bigger 5's would push him around on the block ala Skal Labissiere (who as a freshman was actually 15 pounds heavier than Bamba). With Hump gone I do now feel that he'll play at the 5 when Ricahrds and company find themselves in foul trouble or if Richards/SKJ/Wynyard can't do their job and Cal wants to get Washington more minutes at the 4. In the end, it'll be a great problem that I'm sure Cal won't mind having.
Go Big Blue!!!
