Hidden Message in Bamba's JBC Interview?

As has been talked about, Bamba is rooming with Quade Green at the JBC and mentioned in an interview that Green, Trent/Carter, and Coleman have all been giving their best sales pitch to get him to join them at UK, Puke, and Texas. What I found interesting was that during the interview he mentions that Magic Johnson is his all-time favorite player due to the fact that he is the poster child for a "Positionless" player. We all know that Cal has several buzz words he uses on a constant basis and he really started pushing the idea of "Positionless" players during the recruitment of last year's class. In fact, I remember hearing Bam, Fox and Monk use that term in several of their interviews prior to committing to UK. If history repeats itself his "Positionless" comment might be a hidden message letting the BBN know that he'll be joining the family soon.

While Bamba loves the idea of being a "positionless" player, what position(s) do you think Bamba will play at UK and why? I personally feel he'll start at the 4 with Richards at the 5, which is crazy to say in that it means that an extremely talented player such as Washington would be coming off the bench. Without going into too much detail I think Bamba's skill set makes him better suited to play the 4 instead of the 5 and that bigger 5's would push him around on the block ala Skal Labissiere (who as a freshman was actually 15 pounds heavier than Bamba). With Hump gone I do now feel that he'll play at the 5 when Ricahrds and company find themselves in foul trouble or if Richards/SKJ/Wynyard can't do their job and Cal wants to get Washington more minutes at the 4. In the end, it'll be a great problem that I'm sure Cal won't mind having.

Go Big Blue!!!

I fear that this is merely a head fake orchestrated by Jeff Capel, to drop hints that he is going to Kentucky and make the "surprise" Duke announcement.

Just kidding but that really is the way some of you think.

Seriously, if Bamba turns down the chance to play with his boys - Quade and Hami - and then turns down the chance to play for the guy who has the best record at putting big men in the league - I seriously give up.

I see Bamba at the 5 with Washington at the 4. Bam at the 4 if everything comes together perfectly.

I have said in another post that that Bamba would play the 5 at whatever school he goes to. Remember Towns thought he was going to play the 4. Look how that turned out.

I LOVE Washington. He's going to be a beast.

I agree. More so than almost any other player I'm extremely excited to see Washington progress over the span of next season. Which is why I stated in my original post that I even think I'm crazy for stating that Bamba will start at the 4. [roll]

I knew I'd get bashed for stating that I think Bamba will play the 4, but I figured it was late and you guys needed somebody to make fun of before going to bed. Plus, I was wondering if I was the only "idiot" that felt this way. While it's not a popular feeling I really do feel like he's going to play the 4, so with thick skin I'll continue to take my bashing and come next season gladly eat crow or in good fun give you guys a big ole I told you so. As I told someone in another thread, either way we'll all be happy because it'll mean that Bamba is wearing the blue and white. [cheers]

I'm with you. Now I don't know if he'll start at the 4 or 5. I think a lot of that depends on a few things; does Bam return, will Richards be ready to contribute, how much improvement has Gabriel and SKJ made, and how much do we need Washington on the floor. A lot of questions to be answered, but I do think Bamba will see time at the 4.

One thing we do need to remember is that AD and Jones were both listed throughout their season as forwards, both of them. So we habitually label each starting five as a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, but Cal just says go out and there and play instinctively. He doesn't have areas of the floor where he wants each player to play (most players). I can assure you though that he'll want Bamba in the paint defensively.

OP tell Bamba that Magic (Earvin) and I have a history. I actually did try tripping Magic many times.(While sitting on the bench as team manager and the only "white dude" among a stream of "black dudes" Magic always had that Magic smile. (No I am not THAT tripper.)

Bamba can play the 4 at UK but he has to realize that the 4 at UK posts up a lot. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

All I'd say is Kentucky isn't for everyone, and if Bamba doesn't see the benefits, best of luck elsewhere. But if Cal comes to town and beats you, don't be a hater.

He's supposed to be pretty smart; Harvard material. I like our chances.

But I earned EVERY one of those likes by being myself, real and not going with the flow. Can u say the same for yourself?

I'm usually posting on my iPhone so I never see likes and sht. Was totally shocked to see I have 3,000. I consider myself a below average poster with a mild spelling issue. I'm 31 with a teaching degree and can't get the word cupboard right.

So go figure I guess.

Bamba will never ever ever ever play anywhere but center at any level on any planet.
It does not have anything to do with him playing center. It has to do with defense. Cal wants his player to be able to be able to switch off and guard any player on the other team when necessary. Bam was out front guarding guards and forwards on switches. That is what Cal is talking about. He does not expect Bam to play guard and bring the ball up on offense.

Nope. If you were really that way you wouldnt have as many likes as u have. U get that by being a "yes" person.
