Hey Grumpy

What can you tell us about GA LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson, now in portal? 7 SEC offers out of HS including UK. UK's up against it with LBs, very thin position.

He was team captain, started every game in 22, great leader. Good against the inside runs, good at blitzing inside. The negative on him is a liability in space, just doesn't have the speed or instincts to cover. Was injured, broken arm, couldn't get his position back was passed by 2 frosh who are much better in space.

With all that said, even with his limited range his leadership is an asset, hated seeing him hit the portal, but he wants to play and I understand him hitting portal. If he ends up at UK he will be a team leader. His nickname is Pops.

Is he Pops because he has been around for a while, or it pops when he hits someone?

Much thanks, sounds interesting. I have no idea of UK's interest in him or he in them.

He will be a 5th year guy I think so awhile but I assumed it was because he looks older. Not a huge hitter, a solid lb against the run and liability in coverage.
That this player just has one year left may preclude UK involvement. Stoops likes multiple years with his transfers if possible.

Class of 2021 so he doesn’t get a Covid year. Georgia listed him as a junior this year so looks like one year of eligibility left.

So 21 kids aren't eligible for covid year? Was she when the cutoff was. But JDJ was an asset, very good from tackle to tackle, maybe elite there. But the wider the play the less effective he was and he really struggled in coverage.

Most LBs do, just aren't made to cover WRs or big TEs. The ones that do make a lot of NFL money.

The Covid year was the 2020 season. It didn’t count toward anyone’s eligibility. That was an idiotic decision in my opinion but that’s what they decided

He was good enough to be the starting MIKE for an undefeated Georgia team that went 15-0 and won a national championship. He can be the starting MIKE on my team any time he wants to be, even if he isn't great in coverage. That is not an area where I expect a 6-1/245 MLB to excel anyway. Just be a reliable run stuffer and I'm happy.

I sure hope this is a player Stoops reaches out to.

He absolutely was, was also a finalist for Bukus award last year and pre AA Ffor 23 season. He is elite from tackle to tackle. But the wider the play the more he struggled, and he was a liability in coverage. I hated seeing him enter the portal, great team leader and locker room guy, good chance he would have been team captain again. But none of those helped him in coverage where he really struggles and the reason he lost snaps. If he ends up at UK I can still cheer for him except 1 game this fall. He wants to play, but his snaps were going to be limited and he moved on. He is a type guy every team needs. Not sure how I can be much clearer I hated seeing him hit the portal.

Yeah, the portal giveth. And it taketh away. You gain some and lose some. I wish we could have held on to one of our edge guys who took the portal to Colorado. But his dad has unrealistic expectations for his QB brother and he kind of poisoned the well for everyone and both transferred. The LB is a legit SEC talent. The QB belongs nowhere near the SEC, at least not at the QB position. But dad just can't accept that. I have nothing against the two kids at all. They are both fine young men and I wish them well. But I admit, I wish we could have kept the LB and I wish the other kid (and his dad) had been willing to switch positions.

Sign of the times I guess. Just seems like once the court system got involved thinks went south in a hurry. I am not against the kids getting a stipend for playing a sport but we are way past that. It's a dang auction for many of these kids, now I don't think that was the reason for the twins leaving UK or JDJ leaving UGA, but it was absolutely the reason some have left UGA and probably UK too. AU is all in, tables are about to turn, AU with their billionaire booster ready to buy his championship. They have flipped kids from UGA, UF, Bama, ATM, basically anyone Freeze wanted they bought.

Yes, it has basically become a free-for-all. College football is starting to resemble the mess college basketball has been for the better part of the last 15 years. If price caps or something can't be put into place, then it is just going to come down to who can spend the most money. That is the point where most fans will simply check out. There has to be some sort of regulation or the madness will only grow.

I really don't know much about the basketball situation other than we have kids with shoes deals and they go to schools with same company and AAU teams. In Georgia AAU coaches/handlers/uncles control who wins HS state championships. Entire AAU teams transfer to a particular school who has a coach that is in with the AAU team leaders. UGA's administrations wouldn't let the BB coaches get involved with those handlers and we got zero of the Atlanta area top players.

Its a shame that college football and basketball has gone from entertainment to how can we make the most money in such a short time.

the only player UK has lost to the portal mostly because of money, nil, was Rogers our dl that went to Auburn. Maybe I have forgotten others but he is the only one I remember. Most of our portal losses weren't really big losses. A few exceptions that went to"lower" levels for playing time but not necessarily strictly for dollars!

If money is involved with recruiting you can bet AU is involved, now with NIL there is no deterrent and they are spending more than UT did for their QB. They are in the lead now for 2 5* committed to other schools. Guess we will find out Wed, one of them was getting 80k a month from his school.

Just arrived at AU, according to him every coach and staffer were there to meet him. If he opts for that trash program I can't ever pull for him.

I’m 100% behind Georgia being our feeder school to take in their cast outs. Keep ‘em comin!!

It was really addition by subtraction there. For one he was rated way too highly out of HS. And for two his attitude was such trash he was never going to live up to the abilities that he does have. Some guys, like a Josh Paschal, just love football and are gonna improve with every chance they get. Never got the sense Rogers loved football.

To be fair to Rogers he was rated as high as he was as an OL, which he didn't want to play.
