Henry-Young

Someone on the OL was talking about Henry. Said he had amazing hands and technique.

That was a great portal pick up.
Is Anaele just playing DT now? I notice he's tipping at right at 300#. If so, we really needed DHY for depth. He might even get the start over Rybka. Who knows? I'm not sure being a 1 or 2 makes much difference on our D line if things are lining up as we want anyway.

Pretty sure Anaele's a DE. Doubtful H-Y would start over Rybka but will play a lot. Nice "problem" to have!

Anaele bulking up shouldn't really preclude him from playing DE in a 3-4. The DLine is shaping up quite nicely to have a deep, solid rotation with potentially very little dropoff

2022 season (players that would be eligible for an extra COVID year have **)
DT
: JR Oxendine** (6'1 318), SO Saunders (6'5 270)
NG: JR Hayes ** (6'3 314) or JR Rogers ** (6'3 336), Dinkins (6'5 255 per the roster, but the player interviewed this spring have mentioned him as being bulked up significantly, so I don't think his weight has been updated)
DE: JR Rybka ** (6'4 310), SO Anaele (6'4 275), SO Henry-Young (6'4 265 - he may have a "COVID" year available, too)

Incoming Freshmen:
Deone Walker (6'7 356) - with his length, I wonder if he projects to DT in the mold of former DT Calvin Taylor
Quentel Jones (6'3 320) - seems like a good incoming size for a future NG
Jack/DE Tomiwa Durojaiye (6'3 252)

I have no idea, but I remember the first time I saw him on the field last year…Louisville I think. The dude looked like a big strong man and moved pretty fast. Of course, most players will look like that lined up against UL, but Anaele is a dude. I’m excited to see how he progresses. I think he came in pretty raw, but he’s got the frame to become a nice player.

Was nice to see Ox in some clips from practice. Man he’s quick, and he changed our DL when he played last year. Hope he’s recovering well.

I though our line really took a bad hit when Ox went out. He was starting to play like a man possessed when he went out!!

Well if anyone was allowed to watch a practice, maybe we could get an answer to the above questions. But no, it's all hush-hush, top secret.

Yup, the injuries to Bully & then Ox in early Oct doomed us defensively, leading to the 3 game losing streak

LoL yup literally every UK football media guy was out watching the practice 2 days ago. Roush & Luckett did an hr podcast about what they saw that night.

Ox is key. If he is healthy UK has a nice two deep meaming SEC levek nice including the Jack position. DL is like hockey where the 2nd line plays a significant amount. Jack position will need to be replaced after this season but if the guys stay the D Line is a strength again in 2023 and a couple solid LBs round out a really good Front 7. UK football will be fun and it has been great watching the team develop.

In terms of pure bodies, we will go 4 deep on d-line. That doesn’t mean all are ready to thrive, but it’s a nice position to be in.

NT - Hayes, Rogers, Dinkins, Walker
DT - Ox, Saunders, Anale, freshman coming out n
DE - Rybka, Henry-Young, Matthews, other freshman whose name I can’t spell

I heard that one of the early enrollees this spring, went home because he was homesick. They plan on him being back for the summer, unless he blows up and gains too much weight. The kid is from Georgia.

Quentel Jones? Hope he is here. Think he could be a really good player at this place.

I had forgotten about getting this guy. Article on KSR has JJ talking about how much help he thinks he will be to our team. Said Jorden Wright is recovering from an injury. Hopefully those three can rotate and really help our D.
Rousch and Luckett have a great rundown with updates from the scrimmage. They agreed HY looks pretty good, but he really needs to add weight.

Also, per DC Brad White, freshman Tomiwa Dorajaiye (sp?) has started out at Jack even though Coach White said he expects Tomiwa may (and likely will) grow into the same DE position as Rybka.
He was going to redshirt this year, so he's taking one for the team to add practice depth at Jack this year rather than starting off at his presumed position.

Coach White also discussed that, like Paschal, starting out at Jack will make him a better 3-4 DE b/c he will understand better what the Jack is doing.

As long as the guys are quick/athletic enough to play standing up, it seems like a fantastic development plan b/c IF they don't end up filling out enough to play DE, they just stay at Jack.
